Hugely important for trans people concerned about passports - all passports will remain valid according to the government.
In somewhat good news, today the state department website has changed the answer to this question to defer to ICAO policy. Sources still tell me that there is some appetite for invalidation/reversion of passports issued under the injunction, but this message will be welcome to many trans people.

As someone who has gotten QUITE A FEW death threats over the years, if you start having "it was a joke" as a viable defense of them you IMMEDIATELY lose any ability to actually regulate or cut down on them because no one can prove what is and is not a joke properly

Look I ain't gonna defend Bluesky moderation, all I'm gonna say is "hey this specific death threat is a joke" is never something you can really handle well when dealing with a population of millions of posters.

Apparently Oswalt has been banned for this. Not debating the virtues of this policy right now - just noting that Bluesky admins seem to be establishing a hard policy of banning people for death threats, whether folks think of those posts as jokes or not.

I'll just say I am not a fan of death threats, jokey or not, and don't have a problem with social media sites banning them. In fact, I'm HERE in part because Twitter couldn't be trusted on this issue. Huge questions as always are transparency and consistency in enforcement.

Just realized I've been confusing Tricia Paytas and Kim Petras simply based on name similarity for god knows how long
(I know basically nothing about either of them so this hasn't materially affected my life aside from being confused by headlines)
