I'm in the UK!
Cat & nature lover. Truth seeker, not scaremonger. Not a fan of Tories, nor of racism, Brexit & right wing ideology. Pragmatic..this is the real world (sadly).
Chris Mason's pre budget forecast.
"This govt is extremely unpopular.
Reeves & Starmer are also extremely unpopular'.
No mention of the rise in the minimum & living wage just announced of course.

Our Labour government ARE taxing wealth.

They ARE making the wealthiest in society pay more.

They did it in the last Budget & I expect more tomorrow.

Anyone who says it's not happening is lying to you.

Anyone who promotes phrases like 'tax billionaires' with no details is selling false hope.

Carer’s Allowance overpayments

Since 2015 over 200k carers were overpaid due to complex rules around what income they were allowed to earn.

The DWP demanded payments back - often for thousands of pounds covering the full allowance.

Labour ordered an Independent Review in October 2024.

So the cost of living isn't perfect after only 15 months (was never going to be). Too many hard choices to make re the economy & immigration.
Starmer hasn't solved all this yet so 'Starmer out' & I'll swap to a new, populist party in protest 🙄.
And the issues above will still be just the same.

Since Labour won power, an insidious little phrase has been popping up constantly in the media: "tax raid".

So I looked into this for @thenewworldmag.bsky.social

And it turns out it once meant something completely different.

www.thenewworld.co.uk/phil-tinline...
Why the right wing media keeps screaming ‘tax raid’
This isn’t journalism, it’s propaganda that reframes tax policy as assault and a democratically elected Labour government as thieves

Are you ready?

Morning all.
Opened my phone this morning to find a Sky News offering of 'Will this be a pasty budget'. What does that even mean?
No, just no.

It still hurts me to see the damage the Tories did to our NHS over the years, especially when I look back at where it was when Labour left office in 2010.

It will take time to properly fix our NHS, but Labour has done it before and they doing it again. Here are just some of the ways it's happening!

Good article...so rare to read anything picking apart what's happening in the HoL after May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak stuffed it full of Tories in quick succession over a short time period, ensuring any gov other than RW wouldn't get legislation through. Press #fail though too, not to report on this.

Show this to Polanski.
This is how you do it,not just one wealth tax which is unworkable and may actually bring in less than you think.
You tax them where it hurts and raises the most.
Polanski will fail while labour succeed.

An interesting read about the purpose of the increase to employers' NI contributions.
Increase in employer NI contribution rate - Royal London for advisers
Increasing employees’ pension savings could help improve recruitment and retention. This may help shift the conversation with employees solely on headline salary, to considering the total remuneration package.

Tax rises in budget although manifesto pledge stated there wouldn't be.
Media headlines:
This govt is floundering as it's broken all its promises & lied to voters..
