If you can believe it, January 1, 2026 marks ten years since the armed takeover of Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. For Portland Monthly, I wrote about how the ensuing decade was dominated by anxious men and a culture of lawlessness.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

Rob Reiner religion note: One of his last film projects was “God & Country,” a documentary released last year based on Katherine Stewart’s book.

The film turned a critical lens toward Christian nationalism.

Disclosure: I know this, because I’m in it. www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2...
Rob Reiner's 'God & Country' explores the politicization of Christianity
The new documentary looks at the rise of Christian Nationalism as a political movement through the eyes of theologians and conservative thinkers.

Rob Reiner had one of the most wide-ranging audiences of any American filmmaker. People rewatch his films with nostalgia and joy. They quote them with parents and pass them down to children.

Ignore the other one's commentary. It's like a black hole commenting on the sun.

Seems AppleTV is the only streaming service that gives a shit about HDR quality. Everything is in Dolby Vision, and generally looks fantastic. But if you have a good OLED TV, do yourself a favor and watch PLUR1BUS.

Exactly. Fuck ‘em.
I admit that I get annoyed at the people who see this and feel a need to scold about how gossip is naughty.

First of all, this is how the left gets a rep for being woke scolds.

Second of all, JD Vance sticks his nose directly into everyone's business. So fuck him.

Absolutely nailed it.
With absolutely no expertise in Tarantino and lots of expertise in film bros, my theory has always been that he wasn’t the movie guru of that video store: one of his co-workers was and he has been coasting on regurgitating that guy’s taste for decades but he ran out ten, fifteen years ago.
