The Reds are honestly so depressing. Everything about this is pathetic. The fact that the only reason they considered it is because he’s from a town 30 miles away. There was mutual interest but they came in more than 15% below market. He fills their exact need and now they’ll just ignore it.

What Do the Owners Owe the Fans?
Pete Alonso is on the move because of money and that's a shame.

Aptos is far superior

It’s incredible that the government is supposed to be so completely and utterly race blind that it can’t even try to keep factories out of poor neighborhoods, but the actual president of the US is going around saying “Somalis? Bunch of filthy dirty people, kick them all out of the country”
worth noting here that the position of the conservative legal movement is that trying to remedy environmental racism is itself illegal race discrimination

Trump's MO is the equivalent of taking the idea of hierarchy and distilling it, over and over, until all "impurities" (not just liberalism itself but any ideal whatsoever) are removed.

It's the exercise of power purely for the sake of demonstrating the ability to exercise power.
Trump’s foreign policy isn’t “noninterventionism,” it is a kind of neo neo conservatism devoted to imposing authoritarian ethnonationalism abroad instead of democracy (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

The 2nd Trump administration makes it explicitly clear that their world view is those with money and power are entitled to accumulate as much money and power they'd like, and anyone who's harmed in the process deserve what they get because their lack of money and power proves their inferiority.

A huge night for Democrats:

—They flip Miami's mayorship.
—They flip a state House district in Georgia that had voted Trump by 13%.
—They keep Albuquerque's mayorship, while the liberal faction flips city council.
—And they get big overperformances (+18 & +22) in 2 Florida specials.

Also, didn’t I see an Athletic prediction that the Reds would offer 5 for $160M?
December 9, 2025 at 4:37 PM
Exactly why I couldn’t get myself excited over it. Until this team demonstrates a departure from its MO for the last decade or so, no singular flirtation with a fan friendly star is going to change anything.
The Reds sales pitch to free agents is “Come play for a non-profit company that’s worth over a billion dollars”

Shocking it doesn’t work out.

One theme here is the speed of American institutional collapse.
“It took Erdoğan 15 years to do what Trump did in 100 days. If [Americans] do not accept the fact that this is a long game, and it will be brutal, I think you won’t have the patience and stamina to bear it.”

The current SCOTUS majority is a bunch of sophists who like to dismiss evidence in favor of hypotheticals. They are spending enormous political capital trying to empower a guy that tried to overthrow the US government. If any good comes of this, hopefully it will radicalize people about SCOTUS.
The conservative justices have their talking point -- what if Congress turned every department into a multimember commission -- and it is totally absurd considering that has never happened under the existing law.

It’s one of the stupidest things of all time.

One of the most dramatically underreported aspects of Trump 2.0 is his ultra-corrupt direct interventions in business. Handing companies to his friends, taking chunks of private companies for the sake of doing businesses, granting tariff exemptions as favors. He’s crushing the rules-based economy.
