UPMC has decided to stop serving 400 Pittsburgh-area families with trans kids. Families turning to expensive alternatives, including private care and traveling further for care. Can you join me and donate to help alleviate some of the financial burden for these families?

That day has arrived. The paycheck workers receive today will be several hundred dollars lighter than usual, and it will be the last one they receive until a fractured Congress agrees on a spending package for the current fiscal year.

Vote Yes on retention! Also, Vote! Election day is Nov 4, ballots are in the mail now!

A rare poll of Pennsylvania's supreme court races!

Among likely voters, a new F&M poll finds... a lot of uncertainty, though "yes" to retention is ahead for all 3 Dem justices.

The yes leads the no 39/29, 39/22, and 38/25. But that's a ton of voters who say they don't know for each one.

"30-year-old conservative lawyer and activist who is Trump’s nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel, which deals with federal employee whistleblower complaints and discrimination" cancelled his colleague's hotel room so she would be forced to stay with him.
www.politico.com/news/2025/10...
In late July, Paul Ingrassia, the White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security, arrived at a Ritz-Carlton in Orlando with a lower-ranking female colleague and others from their department. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn’t have a hotel room.

Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him, three of those officials said.

Bari Weiss's greatest contribution to journalism is reading this adage: "The job of the newspaper is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable" and convincing billionaires and tech bros they're the afflicted ones deserving of comfort.
abigailgardner.bsky.social
Tony Dokoupil who shamelessly attacked a morning show guest for showing empathy for Palestinians? Bari Weiss might want to make him an evening anchor? I'm sure that's a coincidence
oliverdarcy.bsky.social
Scoop: Bari Weiss had lunch with Norah O'Donnell this week as CBS News brass re-evaluates how to revamp the "Evening News," a top priority for them. Another name in the mix: Tony Dokoupil. And then, I'm told, there's a mystery outsider.

Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/bari-weiss...
The Weiss House
As Bari Weiss settles into CBS News, she’s moving fast—taking anchors to lunch, phoning potential hires, and plotting a new “Evening News," with names like Norah O'Donell and Tony Dokoupil in the mix.

She’s left us no choice. It’s time for Isaac Chotiner to interview Bari Weiss.
abigailgardner.bsky.social
Hot take machine, not a journalist, not charismatic enough to guest host The View, hired her sister and her wife to lead her "news" outlet which produced very little news... leading CBS. Bc she figured out how to cater to tech guys and billionaires.

A really weird subplot to the Bari Weiss thing is the degree to which she was able to secure these sort of opportunities for herself even in cases like hosting the view where it makes no sense

She plays to a crowd of 200 is so accurate

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Literally no qualifications to hold the job "oh golly gee, a Pittsburgh girl?! I guess they got one thing right, hard har!"
abigailgardner.bsky.social
I didn't take Spanish so I can't claim that but how FUCKING STUPID ARE YOU TO THINK WE ARE IN GOOD HANDS?
abigailgardner.bsky.social
To clarify, if you see a post thats like "Pittsburgh is rooting for you, Bari!" Or "Shady Side Academy is proud of its alumni, Bari Weiss!" We are not ALL rooting for her or proud of her. That includes some residents of squirrel hill! She certainly doesnt claim us, and we dont claim her.

I have been flummoxed by Bari Weiss heading up CBS news all day. It’s not jealousy. I don’t want that job. I am not qualified to do it. I just don’t understand how this is possible.

perhaps the biggest story TFPever ran was a catastrophically shoddy argument that George Floyd ackshully died of an overdose. When confronted with irrefutable evidence that the piece was simply wrong, Weiss didn’t take it down, she asked her critic, @radleybalko.bsky.social, to come on a podcast.

October 5: Apologies for the bad news, but today is one of the 3 unluckiest days of the year in the Roman calendar. Definitely let people know that the underworld opens up to the living today (mundus patet) and so you just can’t leave your house, especially to sail (also on August 24 & November 8).
The tomb was designated the “Tomb of Cerberus” after the incredible mural of Hercules fighting the three-headed dog that guarded the underworld.

Look nobody ever had autism before we were aware of and capable of diagnosing autism, you merely had a second son who was “touched” and he joined the monastery where he was known for communing with the birds.

The most important human story in the entertainment industry right now is the severe downturn in film and TV production in LA and how it's affecting middle-class crew workers. I spoke to dozens of them for this story about the depressed Hollywood economy. www.wsj.com/business/med...

Work is evaporating, businesses are closing, longtime residents are leaving, and Los Angeles’s creative middle class is hanging on by a thread.
