1. In a devastating decision for trans kids in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee, the 6th Circuit has ruled students can bully trans kids by repeatedly misgendering them.

Trans kids also are not allowed to return the favor to their bullies.

The Circuit also seemed to suggest that trans students could not misgender their bullies in return.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

Walking in the footsteps of…giant Carboniferous trees?

Some 325 million years ago these coal swamp trees were so heavy they made ‘tree prints’ in the soft coral-infused limestone under the soil.

And today we saw them on our University of Edinburgh undergrad trip to Barns Ness!

So many facets of palaeontology are weird and cute and interesting, we need more communicators popularising their work and wonders of natural history.
Until a few weeks ago I knew next to nothing about early Devonian jawless fish. To be honest, I still know shamefully little about them. But I’m currently illustrating a bunch of them, and have become utterly fascinated by these extraordinary little freaks.
Anyway, just saying 🤷‍♂️

Post a movie you like with a terrible rotten tomatoes score

Plot wise this movie fumbles its bag I can't argue there, but from a premise and execution standpoint this is probably one of the most high-concept animated movies I've ever seen, like this bangs I will die on this hill.

Just watched an Animalogic video that:
(1) continues to perpetuate the myth that birds peck the eyestalks off Leucochloridium-infected snails (NO ONE has ever seen this happen).
And even starts a new myth by claiming:
(2) this somehow "cures" the snail of its infection
😒🧪
Leucochloridium paradoxum is one of the most recognisable parasites.
While the oft-told story about them is that the infected snail's pulsating eyestalks attract birds which proceeds to eat them - NO ONE has ever seen this actually happen

"Gavin Newsom is America's Keir Starmer" is perhaps the most devastating thing that has ever been or could ever be said about an American.
Seeing people in the US of States glazing Newsom's dank memes and being all "Gavin slayyyy" is giving Starmer Fever 2024 and, American pals, it's equally embarrassing to witness.

So many of these pics are in front of land that has been absolutely razed by farming activities
If BBC local news gave even a fraction of the attention it gives to nimbyism to the dual climate and biodiversity crises, it's just possible there'd be less nimbyism.

This shouldn’t be a difficult thing to grasp, but people who die in flooding caused by over a foot of rain being dumped in a single county over 24 hours do not, in fact, have it coming, regardless of how they voted. The children, notably, did not vote at all
This makes me sick to my stomach:

“Good. Texans deserve it.”

“Exactly, these kids are in a better place now, where some disgusting Texas SBC creep can't rape them.”

“Right . . . I’m supposed to care hateful f&@kers are drowning?“

“Baptize every single one . . . then flush them straight to hell.”

In an unconscionable decision, the Smithsonian Institute has decided to no longer support the Biodiversity Heritage Library from 1 Jan 2026. Please someone step up and take it over.
Foundations: please step up and take over the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL). This is an absolutely essential scanned archive of all of the old journals and books from the 1500s to about 1920. Has been indispensable for my research.
