WALKING IS NOT EXERCISE; IT'S TRANSPORTATION. Maryland Policy Manager, @ggwash.org. Views are my own, insofar as anyone should want to take credit for them.

Ask the Montgomery County Council to treat transit riders fairly - by PASSING THE UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD CORRIDOR PLAN with the provision (Option C) that converts a travel lane in each direction for a wide sidepath for pedestrians and cyclists! actionbutton.nationbuilder.com/share/SPK-QE...
So there's a Change Dot Org petition about the University Blvd Corridor Plan, and boy howdy is it Car Lobby stuff.

The 28th and final Purple Line vehicle has arrived in Maryland. All rail in Prince George’s is complete. But still over a year out from opening — a little more track and a lot of testing still left to be done.

Killer piece from Casey Anderson that also doubles as a solid critique of standpoint epistemology’s function in public discourse
Opinion: The problem at public meetings isn't who shows up, but the roles that the people at public meetings are expected to play
What are planning hearings actually for?

Pete Rodrigue brings in some really fascinating numbers to contemplate re: the fate of streateries, and you always know it's a spicy @alexbaca.bsky.social take when dril tweets are invoked

Adams Morgan’s streateries are overwhelmingly popular. Forthcoming requirements put them and others at risk of vanishing
Pete’s on-the-street interviews find that streateries on 18th Street NW, which the District paid for but is, nonetheless, about to dismantle, are overwhelmingly popular. Alex ruminates on the connecti...

Urbanism—the notion that cities are good, that we should build housing in the dense walkable neighborhoods where people want to live, and that urban governance should prioritize city residents’ quality of life over suburban drivers’ convenience—remains a radical political program in America.
One thing that’s so frustrating living in a city center is the pervasive belief among suburbanites that your neighborhood is nothing more than a consumer experience for them and that the city should bend over backwards to ensure they can speed as fast as possible on their way to buy treats in it.

bad enough that the editorial board seems to be confused about which Washington their paper serves, but 'does not own a car' as a supposed mark of a candidate's unseriousness is in itself unserious. jeff really destroyed this paper
You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.

I related to this a lot as a downtown Silver Spring resident who works in Navy Yard.
Society broke down and all, but you really still need to stop at red lights
I can't believe we need to explain this one, but it seems that we really do

Large SUVs are a danger to pedestrians, cyclists & other drivers.

It's time to take action to reduce their presence in urban areas.

The contributors had some fun while staff was away in St. Michaels for a retreat, but our retreat was an incredible experience. GGWash has expanded a lot even since I joined the staff 6 months ago, but we have a much better sense of what to do with this newfound power. Watch this space, as they say

I frankly blame Marc Elrich and the old housing moratorium for annoying me and making me go to “one meeting” and leading my life down this road
Also heard through the grapevine that the person behind me muttered something about “how much is he getting paid?” when I was speaking, which, whatever, I’ll add it to the shill jar I put a quarter in every time it happens, but it shows how they dismiss things they don’t like

at the end of my street just now, at a stop sign, a driver thought my dog and I were walking too slow in the crosswalk so she decided to just go ahead anyway. why should I be surprised? Montgomery County has shown her there will never be a consequence for it
Under the leadership of @mcgexec.bsky.social, MCDOT has continued the ossified approach of prioritizing traffic speeds, making all road users less safe.

I need Montgomery County CMs (including @cmkatestewart.bsky.social and
@evanmglass.bsky.social) to push for real reforms to stop killing kids.
