1/3 There will always be some tension between advocates that primarily focus on the need for more housing and those that focus on tenant protections. Still, as someone in both spaces, we could all benefit from remembering we’re all fighting for tenants to have more leverage

Thinking about this again.
The MCCF should do a little less worrying about how they are “perceived” and a little more worrying about their stance that zoning changes should be tried first with the “low hanging fruit” of less wealthy, less white communities.

The perception of them is accurate

Something something builds character , something something low expectations key to happiness.
Yeah, raising me a Mets, Jets, Knicks, and Whalers (RIP) fan is easily the cruelest thing my father has ever done to me, which when you think about it is a testament to his overall solid parenting but also… yeesh, thanks dad.

Since this is exhaustingly freshly relevant, no “Wall Street” is not the reason homes are expensive and while reasonable limits are fine and good (no entity owning a high enough plurality to have pricing power etc.) those problems are rare and outright bans will do more to exclude renters than help
Like even the source for his “Wall Street did it” claim undercuts the claim that Wall Street did it, showing that most “investors” are small landlords (taking advantage of a housing shortage making it a good investment) investor-pulse.batchdata.com

I’m the one in the brown hat.

What you might not see is the victim in the car. His feet are pointing out the open car door. An agent is sitting on one of his legs. He’s only wearing crocs.

Bystanders found his legal work visa in his abandoned car.

#AbolishICE
This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

I’ve always thought it was pretty clear that Stancil was one of the good guys, and I say that even though I’ve had petty disagreements with him regarding the framing of housing policy.

his tangible resistance to ICE is both laudatory and not particularly surprising given everything he’s said
man the clout chasers on here are really panicking about stancil lol

Once again I did not miss my calling in marketing
In addition to being broadly awesome Silver Branch was very accommodating in giving a social justice group I volunteer with a space for a meeting with a legislator at the last minute when I sheepishly approached them for such and anyway they are awesome and please give them money for beer and food

Polite but firm counterpoint, it is the best place I have ever lived, though yes proximity to DC plays a large role, as does proximity to Silver Spring for the many NW DC neighborhoods more suburban than DTSS.
And a teeny tiny ice skating rink in the winter. I lived in SS for 10 years. Really, the only thing going for it is its proximity to DC. Now I’m in Rockville and have to pass by my old street to get to work, lol

This should already be giving new residents homes in North Bridgeport, but…

“Some neighbors, activists and elected officials caught off guard by the project questioned its scale and the process that allowed it to move forward.”

swing voters are real, here to stay, and gigantic morons
New Gallup figures in these charts. Well, so much for that emerging Republican majority people were writing about in November 2024. Was evidently a mass overreaction to Trump's win and failure to acknowledge softness of support, and thermostatic politics www.gelliottmorris.com/p/trumps-win...
