Back again cuz I heard an album that commanded my attention and demanded to be talked about! Chicago singer and producer keiyaA has dropped a phenomenal record in hooke's law, a vulnerable and forward-thinking work. "devotions" is arresting and has stayed on my mind, so I wrote about it. Read on.

That whole era of random brands online doing clapbacks and trying to be cool was really weird. Just embarrassing

it used to be a rarity to find typos in books and was once amusing to find them in tv captions…… now? Standard. Because no human is doing a pass on the copy. Anyway I am presently looking for work
Every day I see spelling and grammar mistakes in ads, TV chyrons, and other places where, in the past, it would be deeply embarrassing and a deal breaker for the source, but now they just fly, and where are the editors. Just hire me or something, damn.
Tell me, bro, where is your EDITOR?

My org used to have two staff editors. Leadership decided editors weren't necessary (and this was COVID era budget cutting, not even AI). They concluded marcom and pubs people can edit their own work and everyone else can outsource if it's really needed.

The devaluation of good copy is so depressing to me. That’s another thing that drives me nuts about AI, the whole idea that “fine, more or less” is an acceptable finished product. AI didn’t create this but its existence depends on it.

No editors. I have clients who have been editors for years and they’re losing their jobs to ai

1st hand experience. This is due to cutting staff. My 1st station the PA/AP put in what the L3. Chyron assistant and an operator would double check. 2nd station just the PA/AP tossing it in while trying to write the HL & get stats right. Someone just pushed a button and it aired. Need more 👀!!

It is so, so bad. We’re surrounded by some of the sloppiest copy I’ve ever seen. Nothing gets another set of eyes anymore. Incredibly amateurish stuff at some really serious media orgs. Makes me wanna scream.

It's Thanksgiving, remember the reason for the season*

*That Elon guy who wasn't invited to his white wife's Thanksgiving for years and made a big Twitter thread about how Black women held him down over it, which was resoundingly rejected by Black women and was clowned by everyone for years after

Yeah I'm still on this one tho
Saw a clip of Kaytranada excited when Nardwuar brought up Love Inc, and this one came FLOODING back. This really was like the 2nd or 3rd most played song in Canada in '98. Sheesh.

I will say tho, put some respect on singer Simone Denny's name, a Guyanese-Canadian dance music icon 🎧

I'm on the cusp of 40 and vacillating between whether a corncob pipe is corny or some really cool shit I'm absolutely missing out on
My friend just fuckin showed up with a corncob pipe & that’s when it hit me that we are all in our 40s which means we get one new accessory slot

this administration really does shine an unflattering light on the influencer class, by and large a group of people with no discernable expertise or skills. get famous railing against FBI guys using jets, become FBI director and use the jet for an absolutely stunning amount of influencer fucking off
these people basically just take luxury government jets and go to fancy events like make a wish kids while their minions flashbang your elderly neighbors

I take on average 10,000 stills and a half hour of video every week. Most I'll never think about again. This I'll hold onto until I grow old. 4 hours ago.

Zero edits. No recoloring. No cropping. Nothing. Just straight up reality. 🦑

FUN FACT: Back in 2009 on Twitter I broke down Redman's "Switching up speeds like Bruce Lee riding a Fuji in a movie" line because in Golden Harvest's released version of "Game Of Death" that WASN'T Bruce Lee. He'd been dead for years & most of the footage he shot for it was lost for decades.
