I kept reading EMA studies claiming to test etiological theories of AUD, but I realized they never actually measured how people experience AUD in their daily lives. So we set out to see what we could learn with existing data.

🚨Excited to share a new exploratory measurement paper! There are *many* instruments measuring “helicopter parenting” in young adults, but items on those instruments are all over the place.

What did young adults tell us about how well different items fit with a definition of HP?

New Stage 2 RR published in Clinical Psych Science: doi.org/10.1177/2167... contrary to what some claim, urgency DOES NOT moderate associations between affect and alcohol/cannabis use in EMA data. Take a look for a comprehensive test of this idea and let us know what you think!

This is a great paper on scale norming that also presents a really nice discussion of how people come up with their responses to surveys, and how that can change over time. One read of it has me wanting to put it into my assessment syllabus already.

Our new EMA paper shows that girls worry more about school than anything else in their lives. These worries are linked to lower positive affect and predict depressive symptoms. More attention is needed on school pressures' role in the mental health crisis!

New preprint alert🚨

We often rely on 0-10 scales to assess suicide urges in EMA and clinical settings. But we rarely ask a surprisingly important question:

What do these numbers mean?

In our new paper, we examine what these ratings mean and how consistently people use them.
