Probably to make it feel more like 2D anime films and TV. I’m sure there’s a subconscious element of ‘discerning individual frames = feels less automated = better / cooler.’

I imagine Vanya ultimately buckling to his parents would’ve been even more heartbreaking if we’d watched Anora hold onto the hope of reuniting with him longer. Once she cuts a deal, I didn’t really care about anything in the film anymore.

I loved the acting and directing, but the back half of the film is a slog. It would’ve been more interesting if she’d escaped from the house and we spent the rest of the film running with Anora, searching for Vanya, while the goons searched for both of then. Them all teaming up to find him was dull.
