🚨Border Patrol arrested two firefighters who were actively fighting a wildfire at the time.

When the other members of the crew asked for a chance to say goodbye, a Border Patrol agent told the crew member “you need to get the f*ck out of here. I’m going to make you leave.”
In images shared by firefighters from the scene, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle is parked nearby. Officers wearing
"Police" vests are seen arresting a firefighter, while another appears to be restrained.
According to one of the firefighters, they were denied the chance to say goodbye to the detained crew members.
"I asked them if his (family) can say goodbye to him because they're family, and they're just ripping them away," the firefighter told the Times. "And this is what he said: 'You need to get the (expletive) out of here. I'm gonna make you leave.'"

Super excited to kick-off our new series on strategies for states to lead on a pro-nature energy buildout! This starter piece is a broad overview/rebuttal of the clean energy vs. conservation argument, but we have future policy deep dives in the work so keep an eye out!

The Trump admin has spread misinformation overstating the harms of renewables to wildlife to justify stifling affordable, rapid-to-deploy, clean energy. But renewables don’t have to come at the cost of nature. Here’s how states can achieve both: www.americanprogress.org/article/stat... 🔌💡

The Trump admin and congress are squeezing wind power from both sides: with the wind permitting pause still in place and DOI adding layers of high-level review, many projects will not be able to start construction to meet new deadlines for tax credits they may have been counting on 🔌💡

🚨 The Trump administration and congressional Republicans are attacking the entire wind power industry and throwing into question more than 17,000 offshore jobs and likely thousands more onshore. Learn more: www.americanprogress.org/article/the-...
Illustration of three people working on wind turbines. Red text, "Attacks on wind power from the Trump administration and Congress are killing thousands of jobs. 17K+ offshore jobs are already canceled, on hold, or at risk. Thousands more onshore jobs could be at risk."

Is this abundance?

This project was approved under FAST-41, meaning it had expedited permit approvals. It also had labor, domestic supply chain, power offtake agreements for communities attached to it... meaning a whole lot of high quality American jobs and affordable energy just went up in flames.

The Grain Belt Express Transmission Line would increase grid reliability and reduce electricity prices for American families. It’s EXACTLY the kind of project experts say we need to meet increasing demand.

Hawley, Trump, and Chris Wright just killed it, with zero justification.

Our research dives into the IRA Energy Community adder that supports projects in brownfields and communities impacted by the fossil fuel transition. It finds that 1500+ projects were eligible for the adder - many of the projects yet to start construction now may be at risk with the early termination

THE SENATE GOP’S SEISMIC OVERHAUL OF CLEAN ENERGY TAX CREDITS, EXPLAINED

We summarize the GOP reconciliation bill’s biggest changes to the Inflation Reduction Act’s landmark climate policies. It’s horrendous for wind, solar, and EVs.

As much as 72 percent of all clean energy capacity that would have been built over the next decade would disappear if clean energy investments are terminated.

That would wipe out more than half of all new electricity capacity additions to the grid. Whoa.

Just another way Trump is jacking up energy bills for everyday Americans: he's keeping expensive, dirty coal plants open that no one wants or needs. Not even the utilities who own the plants!

House Republicans tonight proposed blanket rescissions of funding that is still available from Biden's Inflation Reduction Act for cleaning up ports, trucking, schools, and manufacturing, for investments in new businesses, air monitoring, and environmental justice communities.

the republican plan would kick more than 8 million people off their insurance. how many is 8 million? it's more than the combined population of:

Montana
Rhode Island
Delaware
South Dakota
North Dakota
Alaska
Washington, DC
Vermont
Wyoming

preliminary cbo analysis is out. the republican plan would cut more than $700 billion from health coverage and kick more than 8 million people off their insurance

Amid all the other news, it's easy to become inured to the basic facts here. Öztürk:

-Is not accused of committing any crime

-Is nonviolent

-Was in this country legally

-Merely engaged in speech that the administration objects to

-Has been locked up for six weeks

Now from Öztürk’s ACLU lawyer Esha Bhandari:

“Rümeysa Öztürk’s case is unprecedented and shocking. She has been held behind bars for six weeks while her health deteriorates for writing an op-ed.”

We hope that these examples can be a blueprint for a more effective approach that centers the importance of nearshore habitats and smart state/local policy. Under an administration that is rolling back environmental protections and funding, state leadership will be even more crucial. (5/6)
ahidayat.bsky.social
Luckily, there are a TON of great examples of effective, community-led ocean conservation being championed by state and local orgs, that we sourced from a big survey of the ocean conservation community and highlight in this report. (4/6)
ahidayat.bsky.social
Despite their relatively small footprints, nearshore habitats are critical for coastal jobs, cultures, and resilience. They are also some of the most vulnerable. Focusing conservation closer to shore will bring benefits for coastal communities, but also its own set of political and social challenges
