Assembly and DFM are those things you dont really learn in school, but somehow it’s so satisfying when everything clicks into place!
I usually try to keep a pretty one downloadable on my website, but i have a plain text one that I use for applications and sharing with recruiters/clients

We're in times where thieves can identify as artists, but people can't identify as themselves.
Nice work! I’m a big fan of some of the designs they’ve been releasing!

this technology that i cant even get my own employees to use without literally threatening them is definitely going to be profitable one day

These tools were sold under the pretence of making work faster, easier, and producing better products.

Yet more often than not, we find they make the world duller, work less meaningful, and the products worse, while enriching the few.

And people are catching on.

"artists reacting to ai are the same as how painters reacted to photography" i keep seeing this take and want to commit violence for real
Development sketches from my time as a freelance footwear designer (deckers x lab Baja). I don’t often do pencil sketches anymore, but it’s always such a treat!

Adding some fun and frivolous shots to my visual design reel.

Absolutely! Sketching is an act of exploration. I think the way sketching is being undervalued rn, it’s going to be important to remind students the idea that each sketch is a step along the journey to a product. The destination is often not a pretty illustration.

Info on its energy gobbling should be in every news story about AI. It is newsworthy. It is inseparable from the tech itself.
It's all fun and games until …

"Professor Gina Neff of Queen Mary University London told the BBC #ChatGPT is "burning through energy", and the data centres used to power it consume more electricity in a year than 117 countries."

ChatGPT action dolls: What are the concerns?
As online users create Barbie-like dolls of themselves, experts urge caution over AI's energy and data use.

It’s crazy how i haven’t checked lemanoosh even once since i stopped working at an agency
I recently gave a presentation to some ID first years about design sketching and the value of loose but clear communication. It was so nice to chat with the young designers and encourage them to push the boundaries of design sketching.

this is a great thread! I don't critique portfolios professionally and I'm not involved in hiring (and I'm up front about that when asked), but occasionally someone will want me to take a look at con and I've noticed these same issues in a lot of folks' presentations!
An artist reached out to me about sending their comic portfolio. I don't have time for in-depth critique, but was willing to see what they were capable of.

The work was okay, but there were also a lot of common mistakes, so let me signal boost some general advice-

Better a pig than a gen A.I. user!
Love this! That purple really pops!
Especially when it has someone else’s watermark on it! Makes me crazy
Love me some tactile touchpoints and physical interactions.

There’s something so fun about this cel-style approach to sketch rendering.

UX design is in disarray. The idea of design-for-use has been replaced with design-for-sales, and its incentives (make more features so that you have more shit to sell) don't align with user-centered work.

In this issue, I investigate the ground-level view of how this happened and how to stop it.
Why design goes wrong and how to set it right, part 1
At the root of design's crisis is an incentives crisis throughout tech. But we have tools that let us cut through the magical thinking of feature factories - if we're willing to use them.

Oooh! That’s a cool way to show off the internals. Are you using a fresnel node for this?
