Rogan really NEEDS to be vocally condemning this. He’s partially responsible for it.

He endorsed Trump on Election Day to his millions of followers. And had just 1 OUT OF EVERY 50 people who voted for Trump in PA, MI and WI had voted for Harris instead, none of this would be happening.

Rogan on Trump’s cruel mass deportations, racially profiling non-criminals and ripping apart families: “This is crazy. That shows no heart. You’re not gonna get any reasonable people to go along with that. Any kind person would go ‘this can’t be the only way to do this’.”

The importance of this question cannot be overstated: Trump has been communicating directly with Bondi through Truth Social about indicting his enemies. How this question is resolved is critical.

Important discovery fight taking shape in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's criminal case.

The question: Can the government assert privilege to avoid handing over documents that may be relevant to a defendant's vindictive prosecution claim?

Abrego's counsel says no.

By the letter of the law, the D.C. Council shouldn't have been able to to discuss an issue behind closed doors that was on their public agenda that day.

But earlier this year, they created a loophole.

What happened this week, and why does it matter? @maustermuhle.bsky.social reports:
Wilson Building Bulletin: Curfews and closed doors
The D.C. Council rejected a bill extending the youth curfew. Until it didn't.

Much clearer and less sensationalist explanation of what’s going on with Courts in Portland than I’ve seen elsewhere.

In the Oregon troops case, the Ninth Circuit panel granted an administrative stay of the Saturday OR NG TRO but *not* the Sunday deployment TRO.

"Thus, the effect of granting an administrative stay preserves the status quo in which National Guard members have been federalized but not deployed."

U.S. COURT OF APPEALS
DONALD J. TRUMP, In his official capacity as President of the United States; et al.,
Defendants - Appellants.
Before: GRABER, R. NELSON, and BADE, Circuit Judges. In the circumstances here, granting an administrative stay will best preserve the status quo. Prior to the October 4 temporary restraining order, Oregon National
Guard members had been federalized but not deployed. The Memorandum
authorized federalization of the Oregon National Guard members. An
administrative stay of the October 4 temporary restraining order will maintain the federalization of Oregon National Guard members, because that order prohibits implementation of the Memorandum. Additionally, the second temporary restraining order has not been challenged or appealed, and it prohibits the deployment of National Guard members in Oregon. Thus, the effect of granting an administrative stay preserves the status quo in which National Guard members

Yep, which Germany sustained better after WWII than the U.S. did after the Civil War.

Moreover, critics of the administration's actions are often simultaneously defending themselves against criticisms leveled by those who (rightly, but often unhelpfully) point out that the police, immigration authorities, regulatory committees, courts, military etc. abused their powers in the past.

This is an excellent observation on how the fact that people still go to school, work, and play in similar ways obscures the nefarious changes taking place and makes those who are highlighting the danger seem like they're catastrophizing.

Watching so many people in high places go through the motions of polling and median-voter whispering can make you feel like you're in Bodysnatchers. It's worth a reminder that the typical experience of tyranny is...basically normal life. Which means we have to will ourselves to fight harder.
The Median Experience Of Tyranny
If the politics of tyranny were self-discrediting, we wouldn't need mantras like "never again."

I've been banging this drum for the past four months or so: DOGE and Russ Vought broke the appropriations process. What's the point of going through the arduous process of crafting 12 spending bills, clearing them through committee and getting them through two chambers if Trump does rescissions?
vermontgmg.bsky.social
If appropriations bills are not seen as enforceable contracts, why should any Member of Congress vote to fund any part of the federal government under Donald Trump? You're voting to provide money for lawlessness. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/there-is-n...
There is no budget "deal" to be made
President Trump has so broken the constitutional framework as to make joint normal, responsible government impossible.

They’re wrong not to front that it’s the law, but it was a sensible longstanding policy until threats by Trump in 2019 made congress codify it into law (without a veto).
ajgenz.bsky.social
safeguards are hard, because SCOTUS won’t really enforce them, but they can use their other powers to check Trump: spend the money the way we say or nothing you want moves through congress.

It is, insofar as the application of 1863 precedent. No excuse now to move troops overground from one state to another via a 3rd state - they can fly!

My daughter (then grade 5) submitted a ~two page list of suggestions to the end of year survey that the school sent around.

And even then a responsible president would go out of their way to (a) coordinate with the state needing aid; (b) bring guard members from nearby and politically aligned states; (c) try to have the governor’s office closely coordinate the work with the sending state; and (d) emphasize temporality

I don’t agree. Their jobs are only useless because they don’t meaningfully object. If they think what Trump is doing is wrong, convince their colleagues and put a stop to it.
ajgenz.bsky.social
I was thinking of this earlier when someone mentioned the “ship tax” and how it presaged Trump’s approach to tariffs. (the fact that this came up in the “revolutions” podcast hints at how well it was received)
resnikoff.bsky.social
I know it’s easy to get inured to this stuff but imagine a podcast ep where @mikeduncan.bsky.social is telling you about this happening in some other country at the same time that a crisis in parliament has shut down the national budget.

Presidents have federalized a state's own Guard to use over its objection, most famously desegregation. And sometimes regular military has been used. But taking one state's soldiers and putting them in another state? This is a completely unprecedented breakdown of what the Union fundamentally is.

And the Appalachian mountains and state of the northern navy made acquiescing to the request not to come through Md impossible to accept
ajgenz.bsky.social
Lincoln’s much more problematic action is arresting without charge members of the MD state legislature to prevent them from voting to secede.
ajgenz.bsky.social
Lincoln‘s relationship with Maryland was bad, but the troops were specifically moving through Maryland, not into it. The only reason they were Marching in Baltimore was to change train lines. He was *not* using troops against Maryland or to occupy it (despite real danger of DC getting cut off)

But in hindsight and the thing I wished I understood when I was younger is college is this period of tremendous freedom (if you're lucky enough to be able to go to a traditional four-year college) with a safety net. And I wish I had used that safety net more.
