I am beyond thrilled to announce that Bloomsbury has acquired my YA nonfiction book A DOZEN DYSTOPIAS AND HOW TO DODGE THEM, about the real science behind fictional dystopian scenarios. This is an absolute dream project.

Danai is the literal BEST at query packages and developmental editing. If in doubt, YES you should work with them!
This autumn has been much tougher than expected so I’m reopening my books. Need eyes on you query package, manuscript, or someone to discuss all things publishing? Reach out!

I remember being confused by the Tori Amos line "and burns his CDs" because I heard it BEFORE home computers commonly had read/write CD drives. We have come full circle
My favorite piece of content today.

My dogs probably think they're this year's litter in our family pack, and that my young-adult daughter is last year's litter, and my husband and I are the wolf parents.

The pups spend their whole lives being the pack's newest litter and being taken care of, and this works for everyone involved.

New interview with Danai Christopoulou about VILE LADY VILLAINS!

"So Klytemnestra and Lady Macbeth had always been favorites of mine, and growing up I started seeing the parallels between their characters, how they were almost an allegory for female ambition and power."

This... the year I turned 50, I joined social media for the first time and learned there were descriptors and concepts for a whole lot of things I'd experienced my entire life but had no idea other people experienced too. I think back often to how lonely that felt before I knew the words.
We also "didn't exist" because we had no words to describe ourselves.

The only reason I didn't stop using she/her pronouns until 2019 is that prior to that, I didn't know I had another option.
Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Trans people have literally always been here; every time I see someone sneering "oh but there were no trans people when I was in high school," well. I dated a trans girl in high school, and was close friends with a trans guy.

On this #TransDayofRemembrance, as we think of all those who have suffered and died needlessly because of the bigotry of a minority...

...it's a great time to think about how you can protect trans folks by speaking up and taking action in your community.

Ahh you're a Robotech fan?? I almost never meet anyone who's even heard of it, and it's the best thing ever.

I was 14 when I discovered it but we'll say that counts!

Alt: a red robot with a smiley face is sitting in a room...that is the auto-generated alt text and I'm leaving it there because it's funny. This (I think!) is Mirya, a Zentradi warrior. Who has some beautiful grass-green hair under that helmet

There's a sci-fi novel I've had in progress but backburnered for a while. That deals with themes of power and control, and how we bend to systems and what we sacrifice to break free.

Thinking maybe it's time to bring it to the front burner again.
