Exactly. It’s like when Joelinton gets tackled or fouled hard. As a fan, I still get upset and he does too. But I’m sure he’s also aware guys are gonna have it out for him with the way he plays.

I’m sure he’d also love it to lead to a semi-legal one on one punch up as well 😂

And to be clear, Dahlin absolutely knew what he was doing and who he was doing it to when he cross checked Marchand.

But if you’re a player like Marchand who’s played his whole career “on the edge”, you have to know you’re going to get it back sometimes and you can’t be a crybaby about it

tripping him after the cross check and then bare hand punching while he’s down on the ice and unable/unwilling to fight back is dirty and generally considered against the unwritten rules too.

Also Marchand has been a dirty player his whole career so it’s a case of he can dish it but not take it

There’s a lot of “unwritten rules” to unpack here. If he had just tripped him and had that been the end of it, that’s one thing. But usually throwing your gloves and throwing punches is only reserved for a heat of the moment/mutually agreed upon fight. And in that case both guys get major penalties

And then when we tried to send Geersten out at the end of the second to deal with him (which is his one job) the refs gave him a 10 minute misconduct for just existing.

The ends this league goes to in order to protect that scumbag are actually absurd

I’m happy the Sabres schooled the Panthers tip to tail today but I would like an explanation how Marchand taking out Dahlin’s legs and then bare fist punching him and then destroying his helmet and tossing it on the ice from the penalty box isn’t an automatic game misconduct.
