Yes, please buy directly from authors when you can. I ran into this issue with file size in the illustrated version of Cowry Catchers a decade ago with Amazon. There is no reason for them to maintain these archaica specs, but they do.
Pro tip: buy direct from Joaquín's website! If you want to use the kindle app, you can upload the epub file via 'send to kindle'!
