The Archive for Draw Steel in collaboration with MCDM

Imagine the sound of floorboards lightly creaking under your step as you move swiftly from one bookcase to another!
Lights flickering and dust settling on your way to the top.

It's #PirateBorg day. I need this!

My players are mounting an middle-of-the-night assault on a rival pirate's frigate; leveraging a hit squad of assassin monkeys they bribed with homemade banana "yum yum rum".

I love this ridiculous #TTRPG.

We recently added a few new faces to our adventuring party, and Erin is one of them! I first worked with Erin on Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel. I was amazed by her keen sense of narrative and worldbuilding then, and she's done a ton of great work since. We're lucky to have her! #WOTCstaff
Finally got around to updating ye olde profile page with some fun news: I’ve joined Wizards of the Coast as a Game Designer for Dungeons & Dragons. Much love to everyone who has been part of my journey through TTRPG writing and design land so far – excited to see what this new chapter brings!

Upper Deck has announced that they have acquired the Harry Potter license for a series of trading cards. They have not yet said that they will be using this license for games, and we urge them to refrain from doing so, to help keep gaming a welcoming environment.
The leadership of the Tabletop Game Designers Association was disappointed to see the publisher CGE touting Codenames: Back to Hogwarts, a new Harry Potter-themed version of Codenames.

When i say the patriarchy is bad for men, this is what i mean. A surprisingly large number of the people who are in relationships with AI are straight women, because dating men is exhausting and frankly frightening and dangerous.

I ran a Draw Steel one-shot with 4 out 5 playing it for the first time. Universal praise for system after the game.

Gaming is so much better with nuance and flexibility rather than hard takes.

You may generally feel like you don’t like something (hex crawls, LARPs, 4E, dense text, pick one), and yet your gaming will likely be better if you explore aspects of that thing.

“This kind of sucks, because if we could treat ‘system doesn't matter’ like a normal sentence, then we would understand that it’s not an absolute statement, but an assertion that the amount system matters is lower than some critical threshold.

And that is a really important and fruitful assertion.”
It's early and this is a truly atrocious cup of coffee, so it seems like a good time to pick a fight with the world.

"System doesn't matter" is a valid, reasonable, and *critically important* argument which has been rendered ragebait and a punchline by pedantry.

Had an intriguing editorial discussion recently: how did people in the past talk about 'minutes' when they didn't have watches or standardised times? How does that affect your thinking?

Come down an Elizabethan/Jacobean rabbit hole with me.

People often ask me how to get hired in the #ttrpg industry. Leon’s blog post does a great job of explaining what to do, and what producers like me are looking for when we hire freelancers for projects.
