Actor, director, librarian, city-lover on Lower Tanana Dene land (downtown Fairbanks, Alaska). Anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-patriarchy. Love me some radical politics and modern plays. And Star Trek. He/him/his.

Auditioned yesterday for a play about two elderly, estranged Vaudevillians, reunited when one of their nephews, a TV producer, books them for a "greats of comedy" special. These guys are in their 70s, so I'm auditioning for the nephew, right?

Oh, no. The director called. And I have Crossed Over.

If, as Mr. Bunny tells us, "The only thing more powerful than hate is love," and I find myself incapable of love, does that mean that the best alternative (if I seek efficacy) is to embrace hate? 'Cause, man, that one's EASY.

Hear, hear. Cut us off. We do not deserve any access to, or socitey with, the rest of the world until we get our national shit together.
It’s time for the world to boycott the US
A global boycott may be the only nonviolent way to curb US aggression and repression.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy feels like an early-2000s tween sitcom from The Disney Channel.

"Trust me" ≠ "Truss me."

Good enunciation could save you a lot of rope burn.

Please, friends, mind your grammar:

❌ "Trump shit his pants on live TV."

✅ "Trump SHITS his pants on live TV."
✅ "Trump SHAT his pants on live TV."
✅ "Trump HAS SHAT his pants on live TV."

Every conversation I hear about old age makes me more determined to avoid it. At the end of that road are senility and debility, unless you take the off ramp.

When, as we hope, fascists are lawfully and fairly tried and convicted, and it's time to mete out consequences to those who betrayed our country...

Remember the Rosenbergs.

When you make an intimidating sadist (like Lura Thok) the cadet master in a supposedly evolved organization (like Starfleet), especially with a hippy-dippy peacenik of a commanding officer, it comes off as... not credible? Like a children's show. Make better choices.

"Doesn't [injustice X] make you want to fight?"

No. Honestly, it makes me want to curl into a ball and not leave my house.

I'm glad for people who have the strength to endlessly fight injustice; it's something to aspire to. But I don't think I'm capable of living long in that emotional space.

Hometown hero.

This gallery is next to my workplace, so I walk past every day and have seen the exhibit. The politest thing I can say is, "I don't get it" — but TBH it seems massively unimpressive. A supposed artist used an environmentally lethal plagiarism-and-regurgitation engine to produce THIS?
Meet the Alaska Student Arrested for Eating an AI Art Exhibit
A conversation with Graham Granger, whose combination of protest and performance art spread beyond campus. “AI chews up and spits out art made by other people.”

It just feels like so much intercessory prayer.
I hear all these people complaining that their congress person won’t listen or won’t care if they complain.

As a parent, I can’t tell what’s wrong with my kid unless they speak up.

You need to say something, even if they don’t listen. It’s important.

One of my problems is, I have trouble (as in, dislike) being angry. And if I can't solve anything or make some measurable change, I'd rather not be angry about it. ("Just sit with your anger." Like, fuck no.) Which means a lot of burying my head in the sand.

The most depressing thing I've read this morning.
For me, the legacy of MLK is really about how the battle for civil and human rights is a never-ending uphill climb that will see us have more defeats than victories. One can never rest on the laurels of legislation or rely on politicians to carry the torch. It will always be up to the people.

I've watched the first two episodes of the new Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. So far, it promises to be even better than Prodigy!

Do the supervillains of other IP franchises cackle as much as those of Star Trek?

Who got the idea that villains are just brimming over with malicious humor?

I bring this up because (1) so many things that make life dignified or worthwhile require driving from here to there, yet (2) I absolutely detest driving-as-a-lifestyle. I'm likelier to let my life fall into disrepair because the cost of basic maintenance is too high.
Rather than "the Golden Heart of Alaska," I propose that our welcome sign read "Welcome to Fairbanks - You Socialist Pedestrians Can Fuck Off." Or maybe "Welcome to Fairbanks - Sure Hope You Like Driving!"

One of my handicaps is, I was raised in a family (among a gajillion families) that was "comfortable" and didn't visibly participate in day-to-day politics.

Now I get no satisfaction from incremental changes and don't see the point of continually failing. I'm a defeatist. Why fucking bother.

Ever wondered how bad a letter has to be, for the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner NOT to publish it? Here is your answer: Unless there's a two-week backlog, they've consigned my LTE to the memory hole. Apparently they draw the line at calling Moms For Liberty "creepy."

My LTE in today's News-Miner. The letter's unofficial title is "Charlie Kirk: The Dogshit Salad of American Political Discourse."
