About a sixth of the public endorse very extreme views on making legal/settled migrants leave & then follow up on the specifics. (This overlaps with the 8% who say they support violence in protests & liked the riots, so it should be challenged, not indulged)

Sunday Morning. Oil on linen. Private collection.

I think this is the only time I've had an image of how I wanted a painting to be in my imagination and managed to create it. Usually my paintings kind of find themselves. I love the sleepy smokiness of it.

The government’s new policy will take us back to an uglier, more dangerous place – and it’s not even supported by the data, says professor of public policy Jonathan Portes

Extraordinary and chilling moment at the UN. Relief chief Tom Fletcher accuses Israel of using starvation “as a bargaining chip.” Urges the Security Council to act decisively to prevent genocide in Gaza.

So tired of all this. There's zero evidence that more punishing terms of entry discourages entry. But it does hamper life chances, child poverty, productivity and integration.

There's absolutely no evidence to support Starmer's claim. Overall immigration increases wages. Where there are negative impacts it tends to be on lowest paid 5%, overwhelmingly existing migrants. In terms of undocumented migrants there is no evidence of impact wages due to nature of employment. 1/
I have not seen such a blatant anti-immigrant statement based on falsehoods, pitting people against people, in some time. Statement made by Keir Starmer at today’s immigration summit.

The fact that we appear to treat Russian attempts at sabotage, assassination and murder as somehow less significant than other forms of terror is baffling to me.

Attempting to blow a plane up in mid-air is bad regardless of whether the ones responsible are doing it for Putinism or Wahhabism.

#r4today already getting it wrong in its coverage from Turkey:

1) Turkey has never been "welcoming" to refugees. The EU paid it, a lot, to prevent people reaching its borders, and Turkey has been shown to repeatedly abuse them.

2) Refugees are not "illegal". Nothing about what they do is illegal.
