I’m definitely overdue a visit! Was looking at some photos of my old garden there and feeling very wistful. Growing some tomatoes in pots on a roof deck is not cutting it!

4 years!! I still remember that day you moved in and posted the view from your balcony.

I have been stigmatized for many reasons over my life. But the social death of not being an AI booster right now is 🔥🔥

Also, I especially appreciate the open licensing. 😉

Great to see this @profjhangiani.bsky.social and I appreciate the format you chose to adopt for this - very simple and accessible.

You have more restraint than me. People who don’t put their phone on silent at night are not my problem. (You are probably just a better person than me. That is also possible).

I get at least three heartbreaking, incoherent emails a day now from random strangers who believe they’ve awakened an LLM god or LLM consciousness of a new dimension. The most salient quote from the screenshots below: “(An LLM) will never just say, ‘Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about??’”

this feels like an incredible new urban legend taking shape on reddit otoh I've lowkey seen this happen. like jerusalem syndrome but for talking to the computer

I didn’t get to vote this time but I still dislike him. Can I be in the club? Can bring comedy Scottish swears.

"The result is that today's internet seems to, if not make us actually crazy, make many of us seem crazy."

Lest I be hand-waved away for “emotional responses” to AI I feel pretty okay saying that now is not the moment to be wrapping up data collection and storage in the USA (including potentially sensitive health information) in some pretty culturally deaf marketing and calling it the future.

No no no. I think you have that wrong. You mean “when do we lose the right to work *for pay* and vote”. I’m pretty certain these new plans don’t involve us popping our slippers on and having a nap most days.

THE RISE OF END TIMES FASCISM

My first major piece of the new Trump era, co-written with @astra.bsky.social.

The governing ideology of the far right has become a
monstrous, supremacist survivalism.

Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Non-US educators need to be not just thinking about but planning for data sovereignty for ourselves and our learners, too.
audreywatters.bsky.social
how can you, in good conscience, compel any student to use any piece of education technology right now, knowing that there are no assurances that this information will not be shared with the US government and used against them?

Breaking the Spell
The dire wolf is not back. The New Yorker tried to convince us otherwise this week, with an article that surely makes one wonder what happened to its famed fact-checking department. Extinct, I guess, ...

Taxes are good, actually. Big fan. Pay them in several countries. Get services in return, including healthcare! All round awesome-sauce.
brennacgray.bsky.social
I like paying taxes. Genuinely. Not grudgingly. I can’t pave a road, I can’t build and staff a hospital. $200 in my pocket won’t pay for my kid’s daycare but if we all pool our money it might. I really wish someone on the left would be brave enough to be like, “Taxes are good, actually.”

I am have some big epistemological questions about the book I have just started reading. It opened with positive emotions towards Motley Crue and has now described 80s hair metal as “hard rock”.

It’s flag day here, which normally isn’t something anyone celebrates, but this year is a bit different for some reason!

Anyways here are a few rejected Canadian flags from the Great Flag Debate in the 1960s in order of how much I love them. 🧵
ammienoot.bsky.social
This is unequivocally the best flag. Possibly that I have ever seen. It’s so chaotic. The sacred trinity of the geese! The asymmetry of the leaves / lys! The way the British flag is sidelined to the corner. Perfection!
