A classic
4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

So gather around children, for this is the tale of The Rice Truck Saga

Hey!! Here's my new piece for The New Republic!!

It's about how Meta is cramming generative video slop (the most energy-intensive of the gen systems) into its massive global advertising engine: a recipe for an order magnitude worsening of its already-huge harms 😱

In case anyone wonders how The Discourse ™️ is going, I’m currently watching a YouTube video entitled “what a week as a Hobbit taught me about capitalism”.

The YouTube film recap accounts often use text to speech for their videos. Hilariously, this means the Predator: Badlands recaps are based on a Yorkshire fighting for his life and not a Yuatja.

Oh ay.

The report found that about 68,500 people annually require sexual assault support services in Australia but about 23,000 are left with unmet support needs.

The funding shortfall for support services is $80 million - or 0.02% of the $368 billion the Commonwealth gov is spending on 11 submarines

But the newly proposed FOI bill will make it harder for the public to scrutinise the government and easier for secrecy to prevail
