Happily in love with Doctor Who: classic, eu and gallifrey. 30, from Aotearoa, BA in classical studies. Current languages: English, French, and elementary Welsh. Absolutely unhinged views on the Fifth Doctor and Tegan Jovanka.
"Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you wouldn't have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won't have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you'll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean."
Which lines of poetry live rent-free in your head?

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

Propping my tablet on a reading easel on top of a copy of a paper called "Assessment study of lichenometric methods for dating surfaces" so I can write Doctor Who fanfiction, and I'm sorry V. Jomelli your paper is amazing, but I will be making a dumb reference to it with Benny Summerfield.

moral support for me writing my December advent short fics. Will inevitably reach day ten or so and burnout from a combo of retail work and organising Christmas for my own family, but fun to force myself to write just wee things for awhile.

Oh, it feels a bit wrong trying to read this in October, gorgeous as it is.
Plus, now I have Hark the Herald Angels Sing stuck in my head.

My coworker joked to me that tattoos are cheaper than therapy, and not wrong, so I joked back that fanfiction is too, and all the things I've put this fifth Doctor through...

In the snippet I've just done, such torture is having the chorus to History Never Repeats by Split Enz stuck in his head.

Not sure how I feel about a vampire being a legitimate mayoralty vote in 2025 when it's only a couple of weeks before Dracula is on show here. (He made no. 5 on my shortlist.)

Kudos to Jonathan Blum, for making me cry /twice/ in one story. Thank god I'm not reading this at work, I've already had to explain A Blind Eye, Forty (2) and The Adventuress of Henrietta St to my coworkers.

The Obverse has reached Aotearoa!! The introduction alone has made me remember the joy (and tears) of reading as many EDAs as I could get my hands on during lockdown. 💕💕💕

Using one photo already on your phone, what is the announcement tomorrow at 2?

Can finally stop feeling bad about promising a certain Doctor Who actor that I would get around to listening to Hooklight, way back in early April (?). It is done! Lots to think about.....

For all I am /thoroughly/ enjoying the Cadfael books, the occasional archaic English is really a puzzle when I'm reading at work and can't get to a dictionary. Not that words like 'pleached' were in any of the four dictionaries I owned! Had to hunt out dad's Chambers from the 70s.(Folded or plaited)

Procrustean. (thanks, my late classics and etymology lecturer for that word, adore it.)

Drank this during my 11 hour work shift today and in a beautiful moment of clarity I /understood/ the fourth Doctor.

Lost that when the caffeine wore off and I had to help people pick curtain fabric again.

Trying to write a job application while knowing if I get an interview, there is no way I'll be able to answer the 'and what would you call your weaknesses?' without mentioning I spend an hour a day telling my coworkers all about the tragedy of the Fifth Doctor.

I still actually have a bottle of Styx water on the shelf above my door. That was nearly 8 years ago I dunked myself because I have a silly sense of humour and a degree in classical studies.

What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

I crossed the river Styx barefoot (ok, /a/ river Styx) and sliced my toe pretty badly. Didn't even notice till I got out. Found out years later that the river is infested with lampreys and ecoli.
Thank god all I got was a scar that hurts in the cold. 😅
What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

I wanted to break apart two frozen-together veggie burgers. I used a very sharp knife. I sliced open the pad of one of my fingers instead.

It was roughly 29 years ago, and the scar is still a ridge.
What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

Checking to see whether the stove was on by putting my fingertip on it.

Spending some quality Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles time after seeing Blithe Spirit. The eerieness of It Had to Be You playing as the lights fell and Elvira's voice came from nowhere is going to stick with me for a long time. Poor Elvira. Poor Rudy. (Queer production. 💕 )
