Apropos of last repost, a couple of years ago I went to a drinks party where I was a very insignificant fish in that particular pond. One of biggest fishies there crossed the room to speak to the person I was speaking to. Nothing stopped him, including me. I was skittled.

The piece by @unamccormack.bsky.social in the latest DWM celebrating the crucial symbiosis of Doctor Who and the city of Liverpool, is without doubt, the greatest piece of writing it has carried this century.

When people talk about the idea that some universities must go under, there’s a certain tendency to behave as if these smaller local campuses are negligible- regrettable casualties perhaps but not ‘real’ universities. This report does a great job of illustrating why that’s wrong.

GOD a good piece about fic in a mainstream(ish) pub????

"How might we discuss fanfiction's influence on published fiction in a way that acknowledges that we get something out of fanfiction, and its related forms? Can we reach a healthier vision of the relationship between fiction and desire?"

I am just learning, very late in the day, of the death last August of Ina Rae Hark. Ina mentored me through my first attempts at writing, and I would not have a writing career with her kindness, generosity, intelligence, and care. I'm heartbroken.
SCMS joins the field in mourning the loss of Ina Rae Hark, Distinguished Professor Emerita at the University of South Carolina and a pioneering scholar of film and media studies.
