Note to self: in the year of our lord 2025, next time, don't rely on an old crusty USB flash drive to save documents. (Don't worry, I backed up the files elsewhere, but still-- don't do what I did!!)

I can't wait to teach Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness this semester, but I'm nervous about introducing this slow-moving novel to a group of students used to 280 characters or less. Do any teachers here have suggestions on how to introduce this novel?

I would absolutely watch this.
ANDOR creator Tony Gilroy likes the idea of a Kleya and Vel ‘Nazi hunters’ spin-off series in which the duo hunt after former Imperials following the fall of the Empire with the assistance of Dedra Meero in a Hannibal Lector-esque role.

This is a sad development. It's unfortunate that volunteers, moderators, and NaNoWriMo's stance on AI did the whole organization in. I would love to see more coverage of writing groups that encourage community, which was the best part of NaNo.

I cannot explain to you how traumatic it is to continue seeing footage from 2021 of Afghan people running alongside or gripping, then falling from US military airplanes as they left Kabul airport. To be reminded, again and again, of this chaotic moment is unbearable.

Does anyone have a good alternative to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "The danger of a single story" TED lecture?

Awful updates. This will only fan the flames of horrible rhetoric and commentary on Facebook.
1. Meta’s policy bans allegations of mental illness *unless* the person is LGBTQ, in which case you can falsely say the person is mentally ill:

(The policy uses the word “transgenderism,” echoing right wing terminology.)

I'm having a painful learning moment in the class I'm teaching. Quite a number of my students don't seem to "like" the book I've assigned. It is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Yes, it is 200 years old and the language is a little "flowery"

How do you get 18 year olds excited about older novels?

A very telling liberal note in the past week is all the folks emerging from the woodwork to say how angry they are now, how they hope everyone is doing okay despite the circumstances.

No, I have not been okay, and that has been happening longer than this election cycle.
