“Without publishers and authors it appears difficult to maintain the festival”. Clearly never been to a ‘comic convention’ in the UK. All you need is cosplay, a few long boxes, a Batmobile, Funko crap and some randos from Babylon Five.
Festival d’Angoulême : les financeurs publics demandent à l’organisation de renoncer à l’édition 2026

Sans les éditeurs et les auteurs, il apparaît compliqué de maintenir le festival prévu fin janvier, selon le maire de la ville.

According to the mayor, no Angoulême in 2026. This has been self-inflicted by the various public and private bodies that organise the festival. There will be finger pointing, but it isn’t the fault of publishers or authors.

Bondoux was counting on one final payday. It's not happening. The boycott started with small publishers (including mine), then spread to creators, almost all of whom have dropped out, and now the big publishers are out. There's no Fest in 2026. Everyone will regroup for 2027, under new organizers.

9eArt+ has denied Angoulême 2026 is cancelled. It’s still early, so plenty of time for developments.
Some sort of compromise fudge seems inevitable, but not yet.

I didn’t think the larger publishers would join in. Then I thought there would inevitably be a fudge compromise. Happy to have been wrong (so far). Impressive what can happen when authors act collectively.
Face à un front d’autrices et d’auteurs unis sur l’idée d’un boycott de la prochaine édition, les grands éditeurs ont tranché : ils ne viendront pas ➡️ bit.ly/4i8koeT

Kinda surprised it wasn’t HarperCollins that paid silly-money for this trash
I was gonna do the entire book on the podcast but I'm sorry, I don't think I can do it.

Also, I know this is petty but I cannot get over the insulting laziness of the book cover
