Excited and grateful to launch my ERC project #SOCIO-CLIMP 🌍🌤️

The project explores how #ClimateChange and #EnvironmentalHazards unequally affect different socio-demographic groups 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 across Europe — combining spatial climate data with demographic detail to uncover patterns of #ClimateInjustice.

Or maybe you could teach your kids to treat all people as deserving of respect and dignity. And maybe you could talk to your kids about homelessness, the unaffordability of housing and healthcare, the stigma around mental illness, and why it's not okay to call people crazy.

JD Vance on homelessness: "I don't know why we accepted that it was reasonable to have crazy people yelling at our kids. You should not have to cross the street in downtown Atlanta to avoid a crazy person yelling at your family. Those are your streets."

Outside of academia, I volunteer @ The Gatehouse (UK) supporting homeless & vulnerable communities. I LOVE this place: the guests, the volunteers, the purpose. On 12 Oct, I’ll run the Oxford Half to fundraise for them & the important resources they provide. They deserve all the support we can give💙

Some exciting Monday afternoon reading here - Jonas Schöley and I have a new study in @addictionjournal.bsky.social using UK data on alcohol duty revenue to examine trends in alcohol sales and how these have changed since the start of the pandemic.

onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
A bar chart showing a time series of 'excess' alcohol duty revenue from Jan 2020 to Jan 2025 - a comparison of actual revenue each month to estimated revenue if the pre-2020 trend had continued. This shows falls in alcohol duty revenue during the lockdowns in spring 2020 and winter 2020/21, but corresponding increases in summer 2020 and spring/summer 2021. Since the start of 2022 duty revenue has been consistently below the pre-pandemic trend, except for a one-month blip in August 2023 when alcohol duties were reformed.

“Historically, no one lived past age 35”

"I’ve heard *so* many versions of this claim, including recently from a menopause doctor (implying menopause is not “natural” because noone lived long enough to go through it). Every time someone states this “fact,” a demographer loses a piece of their soul"

Not true.

I see you're a luxury watch dealer. I'm also interested in watches. Let me show you how free and easy migration has allowed you to earn a living. 🧵
Corey Wiley on Twitter writes: "You don’t get it.
Foundational immigration law is morally just and has been established over millennia. Disrespecting these rules and ideals is very offensive to folks who highly value civilized society"
