Time to put the little bag of seasoned salt, garlic, and paprika together macaroni and all the packaged cheeses known to man

Our kids’ (public) elementary school uses a bunch of apps to send messages, share art projects, etc. And every single damn app is trying to sell something. A new and fun way to experience the scamification of everything. Cool stuff!

The 4YO’s thoughts while watching me brine the turkey:

“Dad, that’s gross. I’m *not* eating that unless you cook it.”

So rewarding when your kid independently creates the concept of proper food handling

Please send “boil” vibes to my brine, I’d like to go to bed

Made a Neapolitan frittata with Saturday’s leftover bucatini. I’ve never tried this before and am very curious how good it is

As someone who has hosted Thanksgiving for about 10 years now, all I can say to the turkey haters is “maybe try not to suck at cooking turkey”
every fucking year man

I’ve never seen this movie but nobody should insult Detroit like this
I hate it because it drops this dogshit in the first 10 seconds

We showed the French cousins our detailed Thanksgiving schedule, and put them to work doing some prep work. I may have said “on ne fuck around pas”

French cousin and his girlfriend just got here for their Thanksgiving visit, I made my go-to fall cocktail of maple syrup, bourbon, and bitters for them, and now I’m worried that I may have independently recreated Quebec

Nothing ruins the vibe of a pre naptime weekend beer on the front stoop on an unseasonably warm November day quite like the dog alerting you to the presence of the partial remains of a rabbit in the garden.

Sinners was fantastic and one thing that I hadn’t seen is that, among the many other things it is, it’s a great WWI movie
November 23, 2025 at 5:04 AM
Well that was a delight
I think we’re probably going to go with Kiki’s Delivery Service

My favorite history fact is that Henry Ford stole the concept of the assembly line from the process of making eggplant parm.

Can a 4 and a 6YO watching Howl’s Moving Castle or Spirited Away? They really liked Totoro and I want to do another Ghibli but it’s been at least 20 years and I don’t remember how scary they are

The Madison Children’s Museum has a fire and a warming hut in its outdoor playground, you could make so much money selling mulled wine to parents here
November 22, 2025 at 5:25 PM
It's hard to raise your kids to appreciate tradition and culture in the face of a world that laughs at those values, but when it clicks it's very rewarding (4 and 6YO did a duet of
"Knowing Me Knowing You" from "Mamma Mia Here We Go Again" at breakfast this morning)

Finishing Tooze’s “The Deluge,” and struck by the similarity between the army that was built to crush slavery and save the Union being used for genocide and empire after the Civil War, and this:

At this difficult moment it’s worth remembering that RFK Sr sucked too

But enough about Starmer’s government
An enormous wall of trash about 500 feet in length and up to four stories tall was recently discovered near a highway in the English countryside, leading to a national outcry across Britain.
A Colossal, Hidden Pile of Trash Ignites Outcry in Britain
The discovery of a mountain of garbage near a highway is the latest example of what experts say is a growing problem of criminal organizations profiting from illegal dumping.

“The Diplomat” is a brilliant work of speculative fiction imagining a harrowing counterfactual in which people think about the geopolitical power of the UK a lot

Not me, but within 2 months during our year in Europe last year the 4YO puked on me on the Paris metro 50 minutes away from our apartment, when I was ill-advisedly trying to solo parent both kids to a Christmas light show, and then also at a pizza restaurant next to the Lisbon cathedral.
what's the most exotic place you've ever puked? mine's not exactly exotic but i did once have a hangover at the nyc facebook office and barfed in their very nice bathroom
Got food poisoning from Fogo De Chao. Puked out the side of a moving cab along beautiful Copacabana Beach. The most exotic place I'll probably ever puke!

@chrissteller.bsky.social this is some elite “local angle” finding

No pictures because it wasn’t very photogenic, but:

Cut an acorn squad in half and roast it with salt, pepper, and olive oil, then mashed it with butter, rosemary and thyme

Soaked dried porcini then fried to crispy

Cooked Italian sausage

Mixed it together with red wine risotto.

Pretty good!
Long week but it’s boulevardier o’clock on Friday, and the sausage and acorn squash risotto is starting, hell yeah

There is absolutely going to be an attempt at vicious political violence that fails because these are shoddily made
Trump Guns are now running commercials on Fox News
