One of my favourite quotes. Don't mess with books. (Similarly in "Guards! Guards!", "The three rules of the Librarians of Time and Space are: 1) Silence; 2) Books must be returned no later than the last date shown; and 3) Do not interfere with the nature of causality.")

Playing a couple of rounds of Medusa's Garden in the parking lot was a very surprising highlight of SDHistCon for me. I'm not usually a social deduction fan, but that one was a delightful distillation of the genre. Great writing on it (and two more games) from Dan here.

I enjoyed the particular take here of how horrible a sentient AI would find many of the tasks people delegate to AI. (It also reminded me of Tanya Huff's "Into The Broken Lands," which I just finished; great environmental fantasy novel on knowledge, power, and how those change people.)

This is fascinating. And what's really remarkable to me is that while the tools used to make up this stuff have changed, there's a lot of the practices that remain similar. Reminds me of the "Sarah Phillips" mess at ESPN last decade: deadspin.com/everything-y...

The 112th #GreyCup proved to be a dramatic and thrilling game, and that could pay business dividends for the #CFL and TSN. New (free) Bucholtz Sports Media post: andrewbucholtz.com/posts/close-...
Close Grey Cup again suggests the game's the thing

RIP Michael Ray Richardson, a troubled and gentle soul who provided two of the most memorable quotes in NBA history. Asked during the 1981-82 season about the state of his Knicks, he said, "The ship be sinkin'." Asked how far it could sink, Sugar added: "The sky's the limit." You can't make that up.

The key to fixing things is writing memorable ballads about them, apparently.
Today I learned (thanks, NPR) that from 1875 to 1975, there were more than 6,000 commercial shipwrecks on the Great Lakes. The publicity of song led to safety standard changes and there has not been a single commercial wreck since then.
