Bill Bryson is one of my favourite authors, and The Guardian have done a good interview with him here. His books come highly recommended by me if you haven’t read them already. 👍

What about whether the treat known as a scone should rhyme with “cone” or “gone”?

Surely the correct pronunciation is the former.
Forget about politics and religion, nothing divides the nation like who wants the heating on or off, or whether a window should be open or closed, in a shared office.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

Surely it has to be Alan Carr who will win the #CelebrityTraitors. He’s been very good, and rather devious!

The Round Table is bound to be interesting. 🤔

What is it with this whole 67 business? Do young people think it’s the meaning of life or something?

Surely they must realise that The Answer is actually 42? 😂 #SixSeven

This was a thankfully and impressively rapid response by the railway staff and the emergency services. As I mentioned in my previous post, the speed of this response saved lives.

The train driver and first responders should be honoured for their bravery in this frightening situation. #Huntingdon
This cd all have been so much worse if an LNER driver hadn't quickly stopped his train at #Huntingdon (a stn I often use), only 0.5 mile from Cambs Police HQ & a major hospital. A superb police response: suspects arrested only *8 minutes* after the first 999 call. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live...

My thoughts are with the victims and witnesses of the #Huntingdon train attack yesterday. What they went through must surely have been terrifying.

The driver’s quick decision to divert the train into Huntingdon station saved lives. He and the first responders deserve medals for their bravery.

The thing is that you could say this about many other activities. Finishing a long book, completing a large jigsaw puzzle, watching an epic TV series. Yes, you may not learn anything tangible, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile. Why shouldn’t people engage in hobbies in their spare time?
Completing famously difficult video games shouldn't give you a sense of accomplishment. You should just feel embarrassed you've spent 9 hours learning a completely useless and niche skill of beating that one boss.

My name is Andrew, and I am not a prince. Therefore, I now have as much of a claim to the title of Prince Andrew as the ex-Prince Andrew does. 😄

GTA Vice City is a fantastic game, and the soundtrack was indeed splendid.

The scary thing is that the game’s release is now much closer in time to the year it was set (1986, if I remember correctly) than it is to now!
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City officially released 23 years ago, October 29, 2002.

This is my personal favorite game in the franchise. It took everything that made GTA3 amazing and expanded on it, threw it all back to a Miami Vice style 80s, and had one of the BEST licensed soundtracks EVER.

I spent many hours of my teenage years playing on my #PS2. It had fantastic games and was a very powerful console for its day.

It was indeed legendary, without a doubt.
SONY PlayStation 2 released 25 years ago today, October 26th 2000 in North America.

What else can I say other than the PS2 is one of the greatest and most important consoles in the history of video games. There's simply no debating that.

The PS2 is legendary. Period.

This is a lovely word that we should reintroduce into English. I think we could all do with some apricity at the moment! 😀
There is a moment at this time of year when the word ‘apricity’ really comes into view. For those who don’t know it, it was recorded only once, in 1623, before slipping out of view. Apricity is the warmth of the sun on a chilly day.

I’m amused by the fact that Trump is even beaten by William Henry Harrison, who was only president for a month (and was ill for much of that month too!). 😄
Worst. President. EVER.

What #Trump is doing to the #WhiteHouse is obscene. I’m imagining the uproar that would occur here in the UK if, let’s say, King Charles decided to demolish half of Buckingham Palace to build a bizarre ballroom extension.

Does anyone else think that the thefts from the #Louvre are a mixture of Ocean’s Eleven and The Thomas Crown Affair?
The Louvre heist wasn’t really art crime, a former leader of the London police force’s art squad said, but “commodity theft.” The robbery could be the latest example of thieves targeting museums for jewels and precious metals to break down and sell on.

I’m coming back from a short social media break to ask this: are there any words in the English language that need an accented letter more than segue? Surely it should be spelt segué? 🤔

Indeed, the way that word is pronounced makes it homophonic with Segway, the two-wheeled mobility device.
