I think recruiting is a good guess — it’s worked before! The Proud Boys followed the GOP grievance-of-the-day with memes and events and real-world violence, Trump and co embraced and boosted them, and their recruiting (and cashflow) skyrocketed.

Judging by the responses to this DHS post, its goal seems to be to mock the physical appearance of a (presumably) American protester.

I wonder if we can think of another political movement in history that was obsessed with the physical appearance of its citizens

I will say that there is no better moment for all the journalists on the extremely niche crossover beat: "antifascism x sandwiches":

Attorney General Pam Bondi says that the "Subway Slinger" who chucked a sandwich at a federal agent in DC the other night is actually a DOJ employee. She describes him as an "example of the deep state."

When I reached out to DHS for comment, they remarked "what a silly little story." The White House, in their response, said they wouldn't apologize for "posting banger memes"

It's beautiful! And nice of them to provide so much seating!

Or just put a rope in front of it!

I mean, museums very often have displays that you're meant to interact with or take pictures on/around. And if you're not meant to sit on the thing meant for sitting, they usually rope it off at the very least!

This is going to happen again and I fully support the next person who sits in the shiny chair, too

Trump and his allies turned to a familiar script over the weekend, casting the sprawling city of Los Angeles in shades of fire and brimstone, a hub of dangerous lawlessness that required urgent military intervention in order to be contained.

As a pretext to sending in the national guard, the White House marked the Ice protests as a broader threat to the US

“It’s fanciful to think that raiding restaurants to snatch busboys, or Home Depot to grab stock clerks, won’t inspire a backlash. All the more so when ICE acts in heavy-handed fashion”

Newsom saying a military force, for which he is the commander in chief, was deployed without his consent. (NG units require a declaration of national emergency or actual threat of rebellion to be federalized.)

Newsom says legal action is coming tomorrow.

Soboroff: "How did you find out that the president of the United States was going to usurp your authority and deploy your national guard here in California?"

Newsom: "I got a call from a staffer."

Here’s the narrative Trump is spinning to justify the federal “liberation” of LA. It’s pretty clear which side is plotting to carry out the violence here, and we know because this is the same way it was carried out during Trump’s last term

And yes, the 2020 protests were overwhelmingly peaceful: 93% had zero calls for violence or property destruction (link below).

Trump’s propaganda machine characterized them as violent anyway, so people shrugged when his feds began *disappearing protesters in vans* acleddata.com/2020/09/03/d...

For the folks finger-wagging at protesters about “violence,” a history lesson: The 2020 BLM protests were peaceful, the right cast them as war zones, and Trump sent feds in to attack and disappear protesters.

Calls for leftist “peace” confirm a false narrative and justify Trump’s violent response.
