I used to live in a stilt block of flats... On a flood plain. 7 floors up and we would get packs off the environment agency with details of what to do if there was a flood and ziploc bags to put essential documents in etc if we had to evacuate... Nice flat. Strange neighbours.

All our contractors were making money in Europe rebuilding and when they came back to the UK they tried to cut every corner they could because the money wasn't as good... So we ended up with a 'future' that was built and has already been knocked down again...

About 20ish years ago I started noticing a kind of sea change - even amongst those I knew and friends. If something was mentioned they hadn't heard of they reply of "I'm sorry I don't know what that is" would be offered but in such a way that it was clear that they were happy to keep it that way...
