That's funny, I feel the TOTAL opposite. I think the first hour is a near-perfect film that respects what the original brought to the table with pristine direction, while the back hour is a disaster - beyond the suspension of disbelief, tonally all over the place, hollow, and just plain bad.

I really enjoyed working on this image! Congratulations @suckerpunchprod.bsky.social and @erikaishii.bsky.social on the release of Ghost of Yōtei! 🧡

It looks stunning, and I can't wait to play it myself!
Atsu (based on Erika Ishii from Ghost of Yōtei) and Ellie (from The Last of Us Part 2) sit on a cliff, making music. Atsu plays a shamisen and Ellie the guitar. A large wolf lies relaxed between them, eyes closed, one ear turned toward Ellie. A huge iconic mountain lies in the background, and yellow-orange ginkgo tree leaves swirl. The entirely hand-drawn, digital illustration looks like an ink work and is entirely in black and white; only the leaves and the kintsugi-repaired mask on Atsu's belt are yellow-orange.

I dunno what I'd do without it lmfao the number of shitty frame caps in games is insane

Oh and technical things:

Uncap cutscenes: codeberg.org/Lyall/SHfFix

Disable HDR as it's broken and use RTX HDR / SpecialK / RenoDX instead. See here: bsky.app/profile/filo...

The state of HDR in the game industry right now is catastrophic.
Silent Hill F, AAA game, shipped w/out color grading in HDR, on top of the raised blacks that come with all UE HDR games

It doesn't look as it's supposed to in HDR, atmospehre is completely gone, devs either didn't know or care for it

Was sad to say goodbye to the game. I was so completely captivated by Hinako's journey and everything she'd been through. Hopefully the game's success will see even more projects from this team. They really struck gold here and I just want more of it.

Next up: Ghost of Yotei!

Ultimately, the game asks more than I think most people are willing to put in. The majority of the story's pay-offs are in the NG+ runs, and as each playthrough isn't as different as Nier, I suspect many will skip this and come away confused by the narrative praise. It's all there and it rules!

The highlight was the puzzles though. They're extremely esoteric and even had me whipping out a physical notepad at one point, but with few exceptions, they make perfect sense and the game provides all the tools necessary to solve them. It has a refreshing lack of handholding and I woulda loved more

The combat has been divisive but I enjoyed it! It takes some getting used to but the clunk dissipated over the hours as I gained more and more upgrades. For me, the issue is the difficulty balance. The default (Story) is too easy, while hard is just frustratingly unfun. Needs a 'Normal' or retune.

The art direction was what drew me to the game and it sure nails that aspect. Ebisugaoka is pure atmosphere - from the classic misty town to the flourishes of red as the horrors seep in - it's great. The enemy designs especially are so perfectly tied into the game's awesome story.

Finished up all the endings of Silent Hill f yesterday. I was excited for the game anyway, but it hooked me harder than I could ever imagined. Ryukishi07 does what he does best and delivers a powerful story about gender, repression, and adolescence... all wrapped up in pure horror and neat folklore.

It's been a week and I still have Golden going round my head endlessly. Make it stop. It's wormed its way in like Let It Go from Frozen. AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

WE'RE GOING UP UP UP IT'S OUR MOMENT 🎶

While it's a story you've seen a million times before, the unique wrapper KPop Demon Hunters dresses it up in is great. Very easy to look past the tired messaging when its characters, comedy, music, and animation are all so well done. Had a blast with it and hope the sequel takes it up another notch

God, I wish all DB games had models this good.

I feel much more comfortable posting my opinions on the various stuff I've been watching/reading/playing on here. No matter how reasonable, tame, or well-explained I felt I was being on Twitter, I was guaranteed to be attacked in some way or taken in bad faith. Totally turned me off sharing thoughts

Have a question for those that were on Twitter heavy and are now primarily here:

Would you say you've pretty much stayed the same in terms of how/what you post (content, topics, tone) across both apps?

Did your approach to posting/sharing change significantly?
animeajay.bsky.social
i did not consent!

There's a film adaptation of it that's *okay*. It nails the tone and is beautifully shot, but while I think it's smartly adapted for most of its runtime, its A/B plot balance and lack of detail result in its final third feeling half-baked and lacking in the emotional weight of its source material.

Really enjoyed reading The Dry. It's a small-town murder mystery in the Australian outback. Very detail-orientated writing with a strong emotional throughline. Big fan of how it handles perception and legacy, and how the environment feels just as on edge as the people who inhabit it.

Yeah, there's a bit too many cartoon characters in those early eps. Esmeralda never really changes outside of one episode where she fulfils more of a devil on the shoulder companion than villain which works... BUT the rest do start to feel much more human in the second half and I really liked that
animeajay.bsky.social
And lastly! I watched The Paper. Much like S1 of The Office and Parks n Rec, it definitely has some questionable characters that'll no doubt see a change in S2 (Esmeralda), but it is otherwise a genuinely laugh out loud funny and charming spin-off worthy of the shows it sits alongside.
