Nostalgia for a time we were told Anime was called "Manga" and we were sold 2 episodes per VHS tape. Please support this VHS tape nonsense at https://ko-fi.com/animeonvhsuk

This UK version is reprinted from the US Tokuma Shoten version that came out earlier. Are you thinking of that?
animeonvhsuk.bsky.social
Yeah, I probably do. As I recall the tape wasn’t in the best condition but it was watchable
animeonvhsuk.bsky.social
You know, you can print Zoids with those things… just sayin’

A friendly plea to please support us how you can as one of the last remaining bastions of independent anime distribution in the US 🙏

AnimEigo's interview with Manga Video's founder Andy Frain is here! Such a fascinating insight into how anime came to Britain & so many great stories too. The kid who won the Akira bike, the Daily Mail hate campaign, changing music & adding swears!

This is a must watch for all 90's anime fans!

Hope folks here for @animazement.bsky.social are checking out the Museum. We have a rare 3D video system that was exclusive to Japan running throughout the weekend. We'll be rotating through the anime titles Dead Heat and Scoopers, so come check out this bit of old tech.

You are exactly correct! I love any obsolete video format and 40 year old 3D technology only makes it better! Thanks for sharing

I actually love this dub. Laughing Target deals with old world customs, so British English actually fits far better than American. The cousin Azusa is very creepy as well.

The United Kingdom use to dub anime into English & everything they put out sounds like this.

Yeah, it's such a shame we don't much classic anime, although it seems to be improving very slowly. Thank god for Discotek!

For all you Manga Maniacs out there, here's a collage of all their VHS releases from Oct 1991 to Sept 1994

Any of your childhood favourites in there?

Do you know what connects all these anime?

The answer... they were all animated by the studio Madhouse. They became very popular in the West thanks to titles like: Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, Cyber City Oedo & Lodoss War on VHS days plus Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Highlander on DVD

If, like me, you live in the UK you too can enjoy the vast library of US blu-rays with a multi region player. I bought mine from www.mrmdvd.com back in 2014 and they are surprisingly affordable. I'm sure you could use a USB C blu ray drive on your computer too for an even cheaper option

My lunchtime entertainment is taken care of for the rest of the year... looks like I won't be completing that Disney+ Macross marathon after all (my apologies Macross Frontiers, I was just not that in to you).

Particularly looking forward to watching Nobody's Boy Remi from @animeigo.com

I remember it from the frequent trailers at the start of Manga Video releases at the time but I never got to go, sadly. According to the trailer it was 12th, 13th & 17th August 1994 at the Prince Charles. Do you have memories from the screening?

30 yrs ago the Manga Film Festival 1995 kicked off at the National Film Theatre, London (now the BFI Southbank) on 5th May. It then began touring UK from 12th May to late June.

Line up included the premiere of Patlabor plus the rare opportunity to see Overfiend, Wicked City & Honneamise uncut!

How did they fit all those VHS tapes onto 1 DVD?

Anybody remember these Kiseki DVD releases? They never appealed to me at the time... they seemed so half assed. The menus are really ugly! The extras are a really long text review by Richard Steele & a gallery of 3 stills! Released in 2001 for £7.99

Wow, that’s fantastic! Thanks for sharing. Seems Marvel had big plans for this movie before it was dumped in Australia with Asia playing over the end credits…
