I received this emergency alert while the ground was shaking. If it's like this, people have no time to prepare.

Happy Pride Month, sorry not sorry your mom ate celery while nursing you
A Not Safe For Work Wikipedia article about lesbianism in history, reading: In the medieval Arab world, lesbianism was considered to be caused by heat generated in a woman's labia, which could be alleviated by friction against another woman's genitalia. Medieval Arabic medical texts considered lesbianism to be inborn. For instance, Masawaiyh reported:

“Lesbianism results when a nursing woman eats celery, rocket, melilot leaves and the flowers of a bitter orange tree. When she eats these plants and suckles her child, they will affect the labia of her suckling and generate an itch which the suckling will carry through her future life.”

I have a soft spot for pure behavioural experiments that are just really well-thought out. I think one of the most elegant/beautiful ever was the scrub jay caching task for episodic-like memory:

Really good article on where #neuralnetwork s are not really neural and how some some researchers are attempting to blend with principles of #neuroscience.

Pope Leo quotes Hannah Arendt:

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist."

Why does every story about Nobel prize winners receiving the call involve them being woken in the middle of the night? Do the Nobel people not understand how time zones work or is it a deliberate strategy to generate fun stories about confused winners...?

Really great post and hard to argue with his main reasons.

The longer I'm in neuroscience, the less surprising the big new papers are to me, when the opposite should be true

In this era of social media, few engagements with real people is far more important than getting hundreds of likes and comments. You shouldn't even worry about getting ratioed because they're bots or not real people. Dead internet theory is right.

The new PM of #Japan recommended the book "Hitler's Election Strategy". This is really bad.

You know I really support countries to have women leaders who will go down in history. However, #Japan just elected its first female PM who is into anti-immigration. This is what I hate about Japan's patriarchy; they will only allow women to lead if it still benefits the old systems.

Here in Southeast Asia, we have balete trees. They're gorgeous and creepy. We called this "Lunok" in Hiligaynon language. They're everywhere in our school campus.
