Trump has issued an executive order that says it protects the US-controlled Venezuelan oil revenues from claims by the country’s many creditors.

My immediate question: Is this legal? Can Trump just do that?

Today Trump said he's devising a "formula" to divide Venezuela's oil revenues between the US, oil companies, and Venezuela.

Analysts have been calling this hyperbole, but the administration continues to say it will literally control Venezuela's money.

There’s still not a lot of clarity around how the U.S. plans to control Venezuelan oil.

ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, and Chevron all told Trump in their own ways that they won't be committing to spending billions of dollars in Venezuela soon.

Exxon was most direct — called VZ "uninvestable" and described the huge lift needed to change that

Trump just said to Chevron's CEO, on Venezuela: "Six months ago, I told you stay, just stay. Things are going to happen, and you'll be very happy."

He appears to openly be describing some degree of communication with Chevron well before the Maduro op.

Other than Trump's chief of staff Susie Wiles, the only woman present at Trump's meeting with nearly two dozen oil executives is Maryann Mannen, the president of Marathon Petroleum.

Wright spoke this morning, Leavitt spoke this afternoon, and DOE released a fact sheet, which together give us a lot of details.

US is rolling back sanctions and marketing the oil in the global market. Fact sheet says they will also invest in upgrades to VZ electric grid.

We finally have a solidifying picture of how Trump will "take the oil" from Venezuela.

The US will:
1: Sell the oil indefinitely AND control the revenue
2: Send the crude to US gulf refineries
3: Ship to VZ the materials/chemicals for oil production
The U.S. Will ‘Indefinitely’ Take Over Venezuelan Oil Sales and Revenue
Chris Wright is the first administration official to acknowledge that U.S. oil companies are unlikely to immediately invest in Venezuela, as Trump said they would.

BREAKING: US will "indefinitely" take control of Venezuela's oil sales and the US government will be controlling the revenue from those sales, Chris Wright said.

Controlling revenue = controlling govt. Unclear what the US will do with the money.

Since Saturday, I've been trying to understand how the US oil industry actually benefits from the Maduro ouster.

Where I've landed: The experts are confused. Industry itself a bit baffled. Trump is out on a limb with this one.

Industry experts called plans to get oil companies to spend billions and potentially provide subsidies “preposterous” and “kind of absurd.”

Permitting reform is in even more trouble.

@heinrich.senate.gov and @whitehouse.senate.gov say “there is no path” to permitting reform after the Trump admin’s attacks on every offshore wind project under construction today.

Trump and Doug Burgum are halting a 2.6 GW wind farm off the coast of Virginia that is already mostly built.

It’s the largest project in the US.

It was going to provide enough power for 660,000 homes.

And it has significant local Republican support.
