This #DebtAwarenessWeek we're highlighting the role coerced debt plays in the Public Debt Crisis in Scotland. Coerced debt is a form of domestic abuse that exploits women's economic inequality & traps them & their children in poverty: www.aberlour.org.uk/publications...

Life costs MORE if you’re disabled:

- Extra energy costs for medical equipment
- Accessible transport or car adaptations
- Specialist services and therapies
- Paying more to get the weekly shop delivered
- Having to pay for a carer
- Higher heating bills

📢New @jrf-uk.bsky.social analysis

There is no way to cut £5bn from PIP without affecting people with problems feeding and clothing themselves or getting around everyday.

A govt that vowed to end the 'moral scar' of foodbank use shouldn't leave disabled people at greater risk of needing one. ⤵️
statspeter.bsky.social
@jrf-uk.bsky.social has analysed caseload data and can see much of the forecast growth in PIP spending is directed at people with significant difficulties across a range of areas. Over half of the growth in spending is from people in receipt of the higher rate in both PIP elements.
Stacked bar chart showing that the vast majority of the forecast increase in caseload and expenditure on PIP is from recipients in receipt of both elements (80% of caseload growth, 89% of spend growth) or one at the enhanced rate (increases to 84% of caseload growth, 92% of spend growth).

Great to see this work continuing about how to tackle public debt, how it relates to child poverty and how a miniumum income guarantee is part of the solution.

A child with dark hair, who has dreadlocks sits on a bed, writing in a jotter. They are wearing a brown zipped-up hoodie and black trousers. Below the image, a curved line in shades of blue appears. Underneath, a blue background features a yellow banner with black text reading 'New Event!' Below the banner, text states: 'Free Webinar for parents and carers: Talking about anxiety-related absence with Enquire and NAIT. Tuesday, 25 March, 7pm - 8:30pm, online.' The bottom right displays logos for the National Autism Implementation Team, Enquire, and Reach.

So what's next? We are developing a steering group of clients to shape and steer the organisation's strategy and projects. We'll be launching an impact report with key asks of our LA & Scottish Government, to make long term change for people living rurally and falling outside of eligibility criteria

We delivered 124 school uniform packs, made 164 fuel payments, gave vouchers for winter clothing to 127 children, took 540 people on trips out during school holidays, supported 51 people through open-ended counselling, held weekly toddler groups and fortnightly womens groups.

Last night we had the AGM for Broke Not Broken. 2057 food supports delivered over 5700 people, 2700 of whom were children. 💜

As an independent food bank we have developed a range of supporting projects to tackle the effects poverty has on our community, and fill the gaps in a safety net. 💚
