🌿 This Biodiversity Month we’re spotlighting researchers protecting nature. Meet @julesfarquhar.bsky.social who studies venomous snakes to help people coexist safely. He hopes curiosity will inspire more of us to see snakes as fascinating, not frightening. 🐍 Seen one lately?

Can you IMAGINE the obscene jail sentences that would've been rushed through parliament in the space of hours, had climate protesters done something even close to this

What little credibility Australia's centre-left Labor government had on climate change policies after their previous term in office has been utterly trashed by this decision.
They are a climate Nero, fiddling while Australia burns/floods/dries.

This is devastating news.

In his first major decision, Environment Minister Murray Watt has extended the life of Australia's largest oil & gas project until 2070.

Tuvalu's Climate Minister Maina Talia said the extension "would threaten our survival".

Fiona is one of thousands living through climate change - right now.

Meanwhile, Murray Watt is deciding whether to approve Woodside’s gas expansion which will only put more lives at risk.

i love that we got 4 new hubble images today and we still continue to get more after 35 years 🥹

hubble really is the little telescope that could!!!
Composite shows four Hubble images in quarters. At top left is a crisp view of Mars in shades of orange, blues, and browns. At top right is planetary nebula NGC 2899, which is shaped like a single macaroni noodle, with its central torus appearing semi-transparent and blue and green, and its top and bottom edges in orange. At bottom left is a tiny portion of the Rosette Nebula. Very dark gray material shaped like a triangle takes up the center. At bottom right is barred spiral galaxy NGC 5335 with a milky yellow center that forms a bar surrounded by multiple blue star-filled spiral arms that wrap up counterclockwise.

I am so thrilled to reveal the cover of my debut novel, In Spite of You! It’s a queer romcom, it’s coming out in August and I’m so excited I need to go sit in a dark room for a while to calm down

A gentle reminder: we have failed to enact the single most ambitious, best-case scenario for emissions.

All of the rest remain up for grabs: and we will absolutely 'fail to stop' these as well, if we widely adopt the fatalist framing
