Support music critics that can be cranky sometimes and snarky often!! Look at my blog and go “hooray”!

Maybe more his worst song ever than worst album, but it was cathartic to admit he’d inspired the consideration. I’m generally not interested in writing pans, but…NOT GREAT, NEIL. anthony-is-writing.ghost.io/did-neil-you...
Did Neil Young Just Release His Worst Album Ever?
Am I the only person really bothered by Neil Young's latest album? Does anyone remember Greendale?

Look, when the dust settles - and I mean literal dust, between the war and drought - humanity will have the technology to make shitty montages of the before times.

Add Bezos to the list of big shots saying the quiet part loud bsky.app/profile/elec...
What makes 2025’s AI bubble so odd is that people not only seem to acknowledge it as a bubble, but think that this time it’s a good one. No less a tech luminary than Jeff Bezos said recently,

“This is kind of an industrial bubble as opposed to financial bubbles…the banking bubble, the crisis in the banking system, that’s just bad, that’s like 2008. Those bubbles society wants to avoid…the ones that are industrial are not nearly as bad, they can even be good. Because when the dust settles and you see who are the winners — society benefits from those inventions.”8

He may not be wrong. The massive overbuild in fibre optics in the early 2000s certainly was good for the growth of e-commerce later on, and that may be the case again for AI in the 2030s. But that long-term internet story provided no succour for investors who experienced the collapse in tech stocks from 2000 onwards.

It was also incredibly smart to put the supergirl scene BEFORE the ending, so I could stop the movie while wiping away a sentimental tear, rather than looking like this

No no just my reductive impression of “they don’t make stars/sex appeal anymore” talk, I’m not responding to a specific wsj op-ed or anything

“For years, I’ve stood on stage, basically asking, over and over, “DO YOU SEE?!” But, through this branding partnership, I can help you answer the subtext of my discography with an unqualified ‘yes’.”

“Cary Grant looks like he knows where it goes, I go to movies to see guys who look like they know where it goes.” Cool cool, trust if the youth aren’t feeling the cut of his jib, the jib shall not sully the legacy of such pipelayers long.

“At least Hitchcock didn’t use computers and let you watch em nuzzle!” is a matter of taste when the mutual goal was a ripping action yarn.

To be clear, this is a stance on superhero movies I RESPECT, as long as the person with it admits “genre non grata” rather than pretending the issue is the *quality* of Hollywood PG-13 filmmaking, with an argument framed around nostalgia.

I gotta find out if there are any negative reviews of Superman that aren’t basically “yeah yeah way to breathe life into superhero movies…just what i fuckin needed…oh yay more funny smart exciting cute shit that adds up to me having to see LANTERNS 8 if we’re all alive in 2040…can I go?”

We should probably hammer this more often because its a huge source of the misunderstandings that fuel the outright nonsense going on.

Cant be an intelligent model or simulation when its not even an attempt at that in the first place.

Like…guys. Its not a mathematical model of the brain. Its a mathematical model of the dataset. The distribution of word proximity in it, to be precise.

WHAT IF…Television had played “Marquee Moon” slightly smoother and hired Dave Sanborn to riff over the instrumental breaks?
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
not gonna burn down a rainforest to see an image of a hot model leaning back on a shiny red Cadillac in a graveyard by the water, the moonlit manhattan skyline at night on the other side, Television - Marquee Moon in Donna Summer - Bad Girls font upper left. And I’m no Storm Thorgerson. But…

In Please Kill Me Ficca or Lloyd talks about seeing & hearing them at Elektra, and how it made him realize how Television would never give the label what they wanted. Case in point - imagine the relative salability of Marquee Moon if the cover was a hot lady on a Cadillac in graveyard.

Read part of the Bill Janovitz Cars book - stray thoughts:
- didn't realize how much of Ocasek's poetry background bled into Cars lyrics ('orangy sky', 'psilocybin pony')
- the band hates the first album's cover to this day, but I think it fits - glossy, archly faux-erotic, and slightly unsettling

“Radio won’t even play my jams! Oy!”
David Johansen as Buster P
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
“We promised David we’d never listen to his catalog of personal recordings until he left us,” said Johansen’s family in a statement. “And only release those we thought would make the story better. These songs, recorded with a karaoke machine while bored on tour in 2009, undeniably accomplish that.”

I’m glad no one spoiled for me that (spoiler!!!) Superman is literally an outrageously attractive POD fan.
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
I’m glad I wrote that all down before my JLI-loving inner child was compelled to take over with “guy guy Gardner he’s a real person now Guy Gardner!!!”
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
I know I saw bits and pieces of the original on pay-cable Disney as a lil guy, but I just didn’t care enough about video games to watch “now you’re in the game!!!” to watch the whole thing. Now it’s “blade runner, but it looks like how kids would picture a blade runner to look like.”

I wormholed into the lore while looking at the casts last night…yeah, I’m still confused about why we don’t unplug the arcade game that’s an alternate reality of robots with feelings that are named PR-!6X and may look like a key shareholder in COM-ORG. I thought this was about neon decathlonists.

“Son, if you wanted me to be alert & sensitive to the emotional themes in your work, I wish you hadn’t led with Tromeo & Juliet.”
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
It sounds like I’m saying IT WORKS ON SO MANY LEVELS but I’m not suggesting commentary & profundity (yet.). It’s really just on a cinematic storytelling craft level, not even acknowledging casting, performance. It’s just so effusively considered & inspired on that level.
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
This is popcorn craft, but if you claim to the craft of storytelling in film, this is just…the angles in the Clark & Lois argument…the slightest pauses to subconsciously suggest still images rather than freeze-frame and frames to overtly say LIKE A COMIC.
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
But by putting him after, Gunn gets to pack in “omg so many dead people”/“lol no they’re not dead, fire just nipped their butts. Movies are so stupid & chicken.”/“oh wait what OMG lol a WONDERFUL MAN did that” for the price of “hero stops fire.”
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
Just the choice to show a villain spraying fire through windows, showing the cliche shots of people just almost dying when logically they should all be ash, THEN show that’s because Superman showed up. SO many would show him first cuz they want a shot of him saving people.
anthonymiccio.bsky.social
Holy shit the level of blockbuster writing/filmmaking in Superman. I should save it for the post but I had to stop the movie cuz I’d still be reflecting on one and miss the next so I guess I can mention a drop in the bucket.
