Back on Twitter, I started to post about some somewhat obscure films I love. At first it was just to pass the time until I started doing it every Sunday and realized it should've been a thread. So I'm just gonna continue that here but fix that one mistake.
Something I just learned recently is that this is also Michel Gondry's favorite film (The director of ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND).

In fact, he illustrated this beautiful poster for it when it had its 1990 re-release in France. His name is signed on the left next to the anchor.

Y'all know what you've gotta do.

(This is Canadian price, so don't give me that "still too expensive" crap)

My Hero.

(Just ignore the "trying to get laid with students part")

Anything Rob Zombie has made, especially THE DEVIL'S REJECTS. Shit is demented but I kinda love it.

Also James Cameron's TRUE LIES is unapologetically racist and sexist. It's also batshit, so I like it.
So because my friend Austin is having a bad day because of some holier than thou assholes who can't seem to understand film and art is subjective, I want to know what some of your favorite problematic movies are. I'm talking about movies that if you were asked on a first date what movies you love...

I’ve had long convos with critic friends of all stripes about how ashamed other male filmmakers should be that almost objectively one of the most empathetic and sensitive male directors on the subject of the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of women is *Roman Polanski*

If I was a Kojima fan, I'd say this was breaking expectations and is actually a metanarrative commentary on player's expectation from a Metroid game.

But because I have functioning braincells, I'll call it what it is; Dogshit.

(Yes, dumping on Kojima is how I cope)

I don't trust anyone who doesn't admit having at some time in his life enjoyed trashy American movies; I don't trust any of the tastes of people who were born with such good taste that they didn't need to find their way through trash. (1969)

I'm getting Other M 2 vibes from Prime 4 right now.

This year, I dipped my toe into Tokusatsu. Loved so much esthetically but couldn't stand the repetitive format.

Then I got more into Wuxia films and discovered everything I loved in Tokusatsu but now without the padding.

Moral of the story; once again (and forever after), Cinema >>>>>>>>>>>>>> TV.

Two things;

A: God Pauline, why couldn't you have been alive right this instant?

B: The Godard hater in me can't help but notice that this statement procedes his 60s period which is very much symptomatic of this issue.
We are beginning to spawn teen-age filmmakers who at twenty-five may have a brilliant technique but are as empty-headed as a Hollywood hack, and they will become the next generation of hacks, because they don't know anything except moviemaking. (1969)

Still never setting a foot on American soil but it's nice to know that there's hope for that country.

Hard to take any attempt to celebrate this game seriously when they keep using footage of the remake.
"And suddenly you just have to sit there and be sad as the sad thing happens."

It's funny looking at the reviews of the new Yorgos Lanthimos film and critics praising it for capturing the current state of America.

But they rarely bring up the fact that it's a remake of a great South Korean film from 2003.

Perpetually blind to the rest of the world. How American of them.

Halo giving me a new reason to repost this.
Another day, another reason to be grateful that my precious Metroid Prime got the gold standard of remasters.

Make the games you yourself would like to play.
What's your number one personal game design principle? And even better - does it have a cool name?

Shit, it's reviewing better than Digimon. So many Youtubers are gonna have to work overtime.

There's so much about AI that sucks Dookie but the cherry on top of my personal sundae is that whenever I say "my favorite film is A.I.", I have to clarify with "the Steven Spielberg film from 2001".

Finished Act 3 of Silksong.

Really good game, a bit better than HK cause the combat is more fun but has many design issues carried from HK and some of the new stuff felt half baked.

Not the best metroidvania ever. Not even the best metroidvania of the 2020s cause Bayonetta Origins exists.

Me: 99% horrors films aren't scary. Jump scares and gore are boring, give me actual dread.

Me after watching a good one: Fuck, I'm gonna have to sleep with the lights on tonight.

Anyway, watch Lake Mungo.

I wonder what my teenage self would think if he knew that I'm going out of my way to not date anyone who calls themselves an anime fan.

The easiest way to guarantee someone becomes a cinephile is to show them the last 10 minutes of L'Eclisse.

It's one of those moments that exists outside the boundaries of human vocabulary, the kind of stuff that opens your third eye.
