as i wrote this i realized you are like 8 episodes from meeting master roshi still i think. anyway i do think this is basically why shonen anime is Like That but it also probably wouldn't be the main thing of anime if it wasn't Like That so it is what it is

its important to understand that dragon ball was toriyama's transition to action manga after a long running comedy manga about a horny old loser (and his funny robot) so sometimes toriyama was still thinking of jokes about a horny old loser and they had to go somewhere
