So my ascii engine has a big-text mode, and you can get some really lovely effects overlappings glyphs. So far in Grist i've been pretty strictly authentic to the "could it run in a genuine terminal?" ethos. But artistically, I think I'd like to explore these possibilities more.

Hey #PitchYaGame, I'm making Crabmeat, a first-person point & click survival horror game where you're a prisoner tasked with crabbing for priceless Southern King Crabs to pay off your debt to the Feudostate.

Learning that the rerelease of King Crimson's "3 of a Perfect Pair" has a dance remix of Sleepless by Francois Kervorkian. I don't want to be rude to mr. Kervorkian but it's not a great track, and the dance remix i did of Man With An Open Heart some 15 years ago is much better.

Had a weird moment where I realised how much my game is inspired by Frederick Pohl's Gateway, then deja-vu at having thought before, then an unfolding where I realised that like Gateway I also want to talk about "between the runs".

alright yeah i'm daft, but i've been hand-coding palettes, and often drawing art without the right palette loaded then only seeing it correctly at runtime...
now i have a palette editor, and finally i can save/load palettes for easy wysiwyg recolouring.

Body text: "is what some people suggest could be the outcome of tax reviews across the globe!"

Stars (standard) vs Dice (new) to show the "number of rolls a character can make in a skilltest."
are the dice readable? i like it being more explicit about connecting the value to rolls, but for consistency every other time you see stat scores they are displayed as stars.

realized that every game i want to play these days can be run on linux, and the sole piece of windows only software i run anymore is Cubase, of which i'm A: still on a 10-year old version, B: don't use as much more than a glorified tape-deck. I should be fine to replace with reaper..

Every now and then i'll do something in debug which just tickles my brain in exactly the right way. eg checking the clear function on this window was working correctly. part of me would like the whole game to look like that, although i know it would get tiring fast - i might use it as an effect tho.

Tv has three HDMI ports. Two are right angled inside the recess. Third projects straight out the back.
All fine and dandy until someone pushes the tv flush with the wall and HDMI 3 snaps.
Second time this has happened 🤦♂️

Wanna thank Sam Altman personally for making me feel gross now when I'm writing "game AI"

When playing some orders the text clears too quickly to read what they do - specifically, ones that don't require any further interaction like picking a target. Experimenting with leaving text in the log instead of clearing it, at first it was bad but some simple formatting is getting somewhere.

opened a block of tempeh that was past its use-by date, and while what i ate was perfectly fine i decided to freeze the rest of it.
i recommend cutting it into portions before you freeze it.

every single pixel update is now an AI feature. Who wants this. Why are they so desperate to fill out phones with this.
