The first paper from the COPPER project! Great work from @hannahforde.bsky.social who led deliberative forums exploring public views on food taxes and subsidies to make healthy & sustainable food more affordable

First paper published from our COPPER project! We went to Glasgow and Bridlington (my home town!) to find out what the public supports with regard to taxes and subsidies in the food system. Great work led by the excellent @hannahforde.bsky.social

Here's @kevinh-phd.bsky.social on leaving NIH due to pressure for scientific conformity to "preconceived narratives" of the current administration (i.e. RFK Jr). About 4 mins. Shocking account of state of academic freedom in the US.

How can we fix the food system? 🍎

Our Health Behaviours team is using an innovative new interactive game – The Mayor of Mancunia – to explore tough choices about food, health and climate with the public as part of the SHIFT project. Now open at Manchester Museum.

Fantastic evening at @oxmartinschool.bsky.social last night with @kevinh-phd.bsky.social giving a talk on "The Calculus of Calories". Really great, nuanced and evidence-based approach to why it it so hard to lose weight, the obesogenic environment and UPFs.

Absolutely dystopian juxtaposition from the Guardian front page. Difficult to understand how anyone of decency and conscience can defend this government at this point. Just sheer moral degeneracy to arm a state that does this and arrest people for objecting. Wtf are we doing as a country?

When people find out how little is spent on foreign aid, they're less likely to say that the US spends "too much".

This might seem obvious, but many would argue that pointing to data or facts is never successful in changing peoples' minds.

Remember all that fulminating in the billionaire press about "free speech" (ie their freedom to abuse Muslims, trans people etc with impunity)? Now that people are being arrested for speaking about an issue of the utmost gravity, the self-appointed guardians of liberty have fallen strangely silent.

It's utterly mad.
These people are the opposite of terrorists.
THEY WANT PEACE.
The police know they're not terrorists.
The government knows they're not terrorists.
Yet, on the Home Secretary's orders, they're being arrested under the Terrorism Act.
