Pancreatic cancer is one of the most dreadful diseases, and I am proud to live in a society that is already on its way to combat it. I am fortunate to have shared food and laughter with one of the co-authors of this effort. Thank you, fellow oncologists!
GOOD NEWS! For the FIRST time ever, researchers have developed a targeted combination therapy that has successfully AND completely ELIMINATED KRAS-driven pancreatic tumors in experimental models. Tumors regressed COMPLETELY with NO recurrence OR major side effects. Let’s talk about that!

Well damn. People living <1 mile from a golf course have >2x the risk of developing Parkinson's.

I live <200 meters from one. My dad lived on the 18th green for years...& is developing Parkinson's. Still only correlational stage, but with a likely mechanism.

*cough* A little bit of extra info to add here:

There's only one transit, so the true period is unknown. It could be anywhere between 300 and 550 days.

This is an exciting candidate! But (a) we don't know if it's real, and (b) we don't know what its temperature is if it IS real.
New planet just dropped and it

1) is almost exactly Earth-sized

2) has a year that's almost exactly 1 Earth year.

3) orbits a star that is not a 💢temperamental little shit M-dwarf 💢but is instead a 🧡 good orange boi 🧡

Cool discovery. Also, not the right place to rant about it, but the abstract reads 'the first planet candidate with Earth-like radius [...] transiting a Sun-like star [...]'

HD 137010 is a mid-K dwarf, so calling it Sun-like is… a strange choice of wording. That star is 1000K away from the Sun.

1. The thing about science that these jokers don't understand is that science cannot be vibe-coded.

Whatever its flaws, the point with vibe coding is that you're trying to quickly make something that sorta works, where you can immediately sorta see if it sorta works and then sorta use it.
“The idea is to put ChatGPT front and center inside software that scientists use to write up their work in much the same way that chatbots are now embedded into popular programming editors.

It’s vibe coding, but for science.”
OpenAI’s latest product lets you vibe code science
Prism is a ChatGPT-powered text editor that automates much of the work involved in writing scientific papers.

Also, the arctic vortex wandering south like this IS an indicator of climate change, as it is due to the destabilization of the jet stream and oceanic currents.
Yes, it’s cold across part of the United States today.

This does *not* mean the global-scale patterns of long-term warming linked to climate change are not happening.

The United States covers only 1.8% of the planet. And a few days is only 0.03% of the 30 years we average for climate statistics.

It is gerontocracy: leaders who are substantially older than most of the adult population. When did we accept this? The new generations can't show up because the old generations never left.
