2025 challenge for everyone (myself included):

- Have you read the entire thread before replying?
- Have you looked to see if other people have already replied with what you want to say?
- Are you thinking of "well, actually"-ing?
- Do you you and the person know each other well enough to say that?
Will be applying a new policy from here on out.

If you come into my mentions to tell me that [thing] isn't worth my attention or bringing it to the attention of others, I'm going to assume you're a bad actor and block you.

ESPECIALLY if you're an 8 follower account with primarily replies.

My mom once tried a "Peruvian Chicken" recipe in a magazine that sounded interesting for a dinner with the whole family.

We got to the "add 1 chipotle pepper in adobo" instruction and could not fathom "Just 1" when the can was so small. "Do they mean 1 CAN? Must be."

Nuclear Peruvian chicken.

I remembered another.

We have a traditional steamed plum pudding at xmas every year and generally make two sauces for it (1 is just the packaged rum sauce).

We decided to go all out and make a vanilla custard sauce one year. It wasn't hard, it just had extra steps, and involved a double boiler.

My occasional reminder to folks:

I have been recovering from some kind of brain injury-like event the entire time I have been on Bluesky.

I am ... not operating at full capacity and expecting me to have the normal memory and thinking speed of the average person is going to disappoint you.

you should read The Devourers

it's one of my all-time favorites and one of the books I made a point of saving from my old apartment
ICYMI, I get royalties for this, if you want to help out a freelancing writer in the heat death of online promo.
My Lambda Award-winning debut novel THE DEVOURERS, a dark, queer, mythic realist tale about sex, love, violence, & shapeshifting, has finally surpassed 20k sales. Those may be rookie numbers to many authors, but for me, it's a big deal, even if not big money. Sincerest gratitude to my readers 🖤

there is some amazing internet lore in this thread
Hell, even in the last few years before Usenet functionally died outside of moderated newsgroups (and by "last few years before Usenet died" I mean "shortly after Cantor & Siegel's green-card spam in 1994/Sanford Wallace era") even spam moderation was becoming largely automated (cancelbots)

okay this isn't holiday food related, but one time my grandparents got into A FULL SHOUTING MATCH in a diner because my grandfather ordered a reuben at dinner time and my grandmother tried to stop him because "a reuben is a LUNCH sandwich"

And if you were wondering if anyone was buying King's "awww shucks I just didn't know" act - yeah. They are. White people are currently bending over backwards to forgive him when they are not the ones who get to do that.

I swear, settlers believe that "in community" means like you, by yourself. Or hey maybe they mean reading books like King's.

But of course what this conversation really does is embolden the folks who want to erase Indigenous People in the name of "equality." Folks like Flanagan et al.

painful. Embarrassing. I'm currently watching folks claim that King must be Native because "he has asiatic features." "His stories ring true despite who his ancestors were." "He was raised in the culture" - he admits HE HAS NO COMMUNITY!!!! What do you think "raised in the culture" is?

The real problem with pretendians is the way discussions around them are driven by mainstream colonial narratives about Indigeneity. Non-indigenous folks believe themselves experts on Indigenous identity and end up muddying the waters even more.

Seeing this discussed by non-Indigenous folks is...
