I’m so proud of Minnesota. I understand why some people belittle protests as not enough, but I really think this shit matters.

I saw a clip on Fox News and they had to admit thousands of people showed up. It’s not going to stop Trump, but it’s a signal to your neighbors that they’re not alone.
From a friend in Minneapolis, just now:

My brother was this macho jock in high school, frequently in trouble with the law, dropped out, now owns a trucking company. A real tough-guy. But when I came out, & eventually when his own son came out, he was 100% loving & accepting. Because we had great parents who opened our eyes to the world.
It’s my older brother’s birthday. He’s picking up my 91-year old mum and they’re having BBQ steaks with my nephew and his boyfriend. #Woke

I still see journalists - even Canadian ones - explaining the Canada/U.S. breakup to foreigners, saying that when Trump first started his 51st state rhetoric, we thought he was joking. Who thought that? I never did, not for a second. He'd already declared war on us with tariffs FFS.

1/ As the people of Minneapolis rise up against ICE, it's painful and shameful that Canadian companies are selling armoured vehicles to Trump's masked militia and providing tech support to the dept of Homeland Security.

2/ Like the people of Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta and other cities, Canada is also under attack by Trump. We should not be providing any Canadian products to a government using them against its own people.

My 30-something nephew is marrying his boyfriend in 2 months...and I'm a little worried. I don't think they'd even met last time I was in Victoria, which was in June. That seems a bit rushed. But whatever. 🥂

The real irony is that they would prefer a tyranny of the *minority* - a minority 'right' to infect others, to censor others, to harm others.
Just so we're all clear: the folks using direct democracy to push for Alberta separatism have a problem with....democracy.
Modry adds that the problem of democracy is that it's a "tyranny of the majority over the minority," citing COVID as an example. "If you protect individual rights, you will protect all of societal rights, but the reverse doesn't occur."

UCD professor of international politics @scottlucas.bsky.social notes, Trump’s “uninvite” wasn’t diplomacy but a tantrum. Carney’s Davos speech clearly articulated a changing global order & rallied allies. Trump responded with ego. Canada didn’t lose leverage — it exposed where leadership now sits.
