2025 challenge for everyone (myself included):

- Have you read the entire thread before replying?
- Have you looked to see if other people have already replied with what you want to say?
- Are you thinking of "well, actually"-ing?
- Do you you and the person know each other well enough to say that?

Will be applying a new policy from here on out.

If you come into my mentions to tell me that [thing] isn't worth my attention or bringing it to the attention of others, I'm going to assume you're a bad actor and block you.

ESPECIALLY if you're an 8 follower account with primarily replies.

I am only on February 2024.

This is going to take forever!

Public schools ALWAYS need more funding.

BUT even if the taxpayer money from funding private schools does not get reallocated to public schools, we should still stop funding private schools.

Alberta teacher prompts petition on province's private school funding | CBC News
If high school chemistry teacher Alicia Taylor gets her wish, Albertans will vote in a referendum on whether to end public funding for independent schools.

Honestly, I don't care if the money gets put back in public schools. (It should, public schools ALWAYS need more funding)

But taxpayers should not be funding private schools. Period.
That needs to stop.
No matter where that money gets reallocated.

"I think people have pity for the birds ... but let's be realistic. If the government aren't going to kill their birds, the next day, me and the other guys they owe money to are going to be there and take most of their birds," Talica told CBC News.

I might need a nap.
But only for an hour.
Feeling vaguely like a normal person with a headache, not a zombie who hasn't had sleep in ages ... because I ACTUALLY HAD SLEEP LAST NIGHT!

the inevitable conclusion of this boondoggle is a million power plants making the planet less and less hospitable to an apathetic humanity resigned to dwelling in god’s waiting room while the planet warms around them…

if a plagiarism machine is all it was, that would be sad enough but vaguely tolerable, but it’s more than that - it’s a rapidly growing, planet destroying prison whose bars are made of everything humanity has already dreamed up: an instrument of stagnation.

are we as a species ready to further enable the heat death of our planet in order to foster the endless recycling of already conceived ideas instead of educating ourselves in those ideas in order to transform them intentionally and thus create newness?

art - even the lumpen popular arts in which i proudly make my living - exist to give us what we need, not what we want. even if what we want is comfort, it is the job of people like myself to make it novel, new, and reflective of an evolving consciousness.

are we really, as a species, abdicating everything that has made us unique to a vast network of machines programmed to statistically determine what we will say, do, or make, and spit back at us what we want to hear - or, worse, what they have “learned”?

a few years ago i sincerely believed it to be the duty of artists to take these tools and show the world how to use them humanely and respectfully. i don’t believe that any more. every time i have tried i have left the experience frustrated and angry…

Like many of the big successes of the entrepreneurial oil industry, the Alberta government has invested heavily in Carbon Capture projects over the past 2 decades. Nearly $2 billion dollars worth of public funding I believe.

Also, if you’re wondering, the carbon-capture technology that oil companies spent years touting as their sustainability pathway is now an imposition by the Laurentian elite (which is basically the Canadian politics equivalent of calling anything that you’ve decided you don’t like “woke”).

I hate to keep picking on The Hub, but there is such a bizarre, mythologized version of Alberta’s oil history as purely free-market triumph at play here - omitting everything from AOSTRA to to TMX, with lots in between (and even before). thehub.ca/2025/10/07/r...
Rudyard Griffiths and Sean Speer: Alberta may gain a pipeline—but what would it lose?

I didn't get covid until 2024 (I did a lot of testing over the intervening years) and I would still assume that some of my lack of energy and fatigue issues are covid related rather than ongoing brain problems from my neurological disorder.

It has affected everyone.

[cough cough] "The SoHo location was the first REI location to unionize, after a vote in March 2022. A year later, workers with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union filed 80 nationwide unfair labor practice complaints against the outdoor retailer for bad-faith bargaining practices."

Yeah

Still waiting for a more efficient explanation of everything than "Everyone got brain damage from Covid": the airline executives charging a $155 predatory premium for legroom, the guy deciding to customize his own flight experience, the chain of command aborting the whole flight—busted mind-traffic!
kashhill.bsky.social
This is absolutely wild. I’m on a cross country flight. We are being diverted midway through to Denver. The reason? Some dude is sitting in the exit row who didn’t pay the $155 fee and he refuses to move back to his seat.

After all, that's how Charlie Kirk and so many others recruited more followers (it's also how cults work).

You do not start out watching the most egregiously awful Charlie Kirk videos. You probably start out watching the Charlie Kirk videos about raising a good christian family.

Lots of people still wouldn't want to hang out with someone who read Atlas Shrugged and Mein Kampf and 12 Rules For Life EVEN IF they weren't a total nazi freak.

Being exposed to extremist views can push you further into understanding, excusing and possibly supporting extremism. It's a slow erosion
alisonborealis.bsky.social
And I get that a lot of people read it as "this person endorses and supports the bigoted shit ___ is promoting".

That doesn't need to be true to not want to be associated with people who read that stuff. Reading stuff affects your thinking EVEN IF you don't actually support or want to promote it.
