When I posted my novella cover's history I didn't know if anyone would respond! Thanks to all who liked, reposted and encouraged our decision to choose a hand painted, nonAI work.

This little fish doesn't mind going it along or swimming against the current, but loves having a school to swim with.
We wanted a cover that absolutely was not AI in anyway... and my painting had brushstrokes! So, we got to work.

I think what we came up with was pretty darn cool. I hope you do, too. Also, thanks @megelison.bsky.social for the amazing blurb!

Oh, what a lovely review of Sexy Garlic, from South Africa.

"A wonderful collection of short stories that are perfect to read between your daily activities. I really liked that no two stories were the same and they all had some heart, some depth and some really good, flowing writing to them." ⭐⭐⭐⭐

And if you don't - that's ok! Art isn't made for the masses, it's made for *people*.

And just because you shouldn't only judge a book (or a novella) by its nonAI cover, let me link a page where you can see some of the early reviews. Two months to go.

We were truly honored to be able to include both R.B.'s story "Geddarien" in this collection but also their translation of the Russian-language story Волшебные бусины by Галина Ліпатова: The Last of the Beads.
My story "Geddarien" went on to have a number of reprints over the years, including in various anthologies and lately in Embroidered Worlds: Fantastic Fiction from Ukraine and the Diaspora, which is the version I shared with my colleague.

Dream the Deep can fully be read stand-alone from Be the Sea, yet if the shared worldbuilding or the ideas Chris notes here interest you, we do hope you'll give Be the Sea a look!

It does really get the struggle of neurodivergent understanding/being understood down - and the diversity of that, too.
If you haven't read the original, it's a leisurely piece of hope-punk climate fic with enby and ND representation. It really gets the struggle of understanding/being understood by normies down on paper. Also, it includes lots of ocean creature POVs.

Also, the cover is profoundly gorgeous.

🚀 Five days until a new world. 🌊

We are proud to announce a new sci-fi novella from the world of Be the Sea, set further into the future. Neuroqueer, ace, and gracefully exploratory.
