@skiffyandfanty.com Just wanted to check in. I tried to go to your site using two different browsers and it didn't load.

Are you having problems?

It's time for a listening party!

Today, I recorded a glossary and some acknowledgments, took a friend for a medical treatment, raked half the lawn, and did some editing.

It turns out my whole life I've been pronouncing the word "invulnerable" incorrectly.

I'm so sorry. That sucks.

In fairness, it was the opposite direction, but our overdependence on GPS apps (like some people's growing dependence on AI) sometimes leads to bad results.
November 13, 2025 at 11:23 PM
Semi-related: I was taking my sister to the train station. We decided to use an app because time was getting tight. The route the app chose was not the one I would have taken. She made the train with three minutes to spare.

I went back via the way I know and it took 15 minutes less to get home.

What I love about SFF Cons is that they are refuges for people to share their joy of whatever nerdy thing they love. It's supposed to be a place of celebration where you can be what you want to be.

I hate that creepy con guy ruined it for her. I hate that there are so many creepy con guys.
November 13, 2025 at 10:06 PM
I signaled another author to go get security but creepy con guy got away. Scared to approach while she was with adults.

She was honestly and legitimately freaked out. I'm glad she sought out protection, but that she needed a stranger would protect her still pisses me off.

It shook me a bit when as an author at Mars Con a girl dressed as Raven approached my author table and told me some creepy guy was following her. She asked if she could sit with me for a while. I agreed and she moved behind my table. She was probably twelve.

Cons should be a safe space.

It's good to take classes and learn techniques, but sometimes the slings and arrows of critics hit a target but miss their mark.
November 13, 2025 at 7:42 PM
This is a different conversation and I don't know who you are taking the class with, but some art teachers are so steeped in one school of thought that any works that use techniques outside of that are downgraded. You know better than most how many great works were panned in their time.
November 13, 2025 at 7:42 PM
You are far too hard on yourself. You capture beauty and drama and I feel it in every shot you share.
November 13, 2025 at 7:27 PM
All good stories come out of puns! Well, maybe not, but a good pun is definitely worth chasing down the rabbit hole.
November 13, 2025 at 7:26 PM
I agree, but I also think the opposite is true that while science fiction is a waterworks for channeling fear it is also one for chaneling hope.
November 13, 2025 at 4:55 PM
This sounds like a reasonable metaphor (even if it is actually a literal description.)
November 13, 2025 at 12:38 PM
For me, semantically, it's the difference between "need" and "want."
i swear to fuck if there is one thing i could telepathically beam into everyone's head, it is the disctinction between is/ought. describing reality as it exists does not! imply! endorsement! that it should! be! the way! it exists!

Still looking for some of these! We’ve said yes to a couple of pitches, but are looking for around 3-5 more for early next year.

We are primarily looking for historians of ancient, medieval, and non-Western figures.
Call for (post-PhD) historians and cultural scholars for the pod! We have a specific wishlist of scholarship we’re looking to add to the lineup:
- ancient & medieval history
and/or
- histories of anywhere other than the US and UK, preferably outside Europe

Pitches to: [email protected]
