I think it's more about whether I still have a reason to. I don't read much manga or watch anime anymore, and I doubt I'll ever visit Japan or feel confident enough to localize my games myself or anything. It's just hard to let go of something I put a lot of work into, you know?

I feel like people who don't do art don't really understand the ongoing joke about how we don't wanna write/draw/etc.

We do actually really want to. In fact, it is not possible to stop us.

It's just that a lot of the creative process looks a lot like doing the dishes or staring at the wall.

My husband's originally from there and he's got a very low tolerance for spice. When he first moved here, southern-style barbeque sauce was almost too much. He's more into it now, but he still thinks things are spicy if they're pretty mild to me, and it's been nearly 2 decades!

This is exactly how I feel about Facebook. I only check my FB once a day for messages, and my feed is just a nightmare mess of ads, political rhetoric, and groups I don't follow, and trying to see what any of my actual friends and family are up to is basically impossible. Just... why?

Well, if an alligator snapper eats a musk turtle, that's really more like a hawk eating a chicken.

(Ah, but then I looked it up and apparently they will also eat baby snappers soooo... well, yep. Nature's just like that sometimes. 😅)

it's time for Japanese to go, but dang it, I'd be so mad at myself for letting all the work I did trying to learn it just slip away.

I hate the stupid sunk cost fallacy. Spanish and ASL make way more sense for me to learn. Brain, just use a little logic here. C'mon, I know you can do it... (3/3)

to properly pick up. I've also started back in on Spanish, which I know some of from back in high school and from the fact that it's actually spoken locally. Hubby expressed interest, so we're trying to learn it together.

I also really want to learn ASL at some point.

The sunk cost thing really keeps biting me. So... I've been trying to learn Japanese for years, but between my godawful memory, very little chance to actually use it, and being way too introverted to seek out Japanese speakers to practice with, I don't think it's something I'm ever going (1/3)

The buff-tip moth (Phalera bucephala) has mastered a very particular kind of camouflage.

When they close their wings up, they resemble a broken twig.

Native to large parts of Europe, there's regional pattern variation that reflects the local tree species. This one best resembles birch twigs?
